Main Event

I am completely and utterly in shock over this..

Everything seemed to freeze for a minute like everyone was waiting for something to happen like it wasn't meant to end that way...

The Streak is Broken... What The Hell...

The fans still don't know what to do lol.

I reckon he's retiring now. Got to. Only reason he turns up once a year is for the streak. Now he has nothing to come back for.

Liked how AJ won though. Very clever. But yeah, you can tell that the crowd is still thinking what the fuck from the Taker match.

If Bryan doesn't win the title now there could actually be a riot.

Awesome. A Batista bomb into an RKO though a table. Looks like Orton landed on a monitor though, than must have hurt a lot.

That was an excellent show. Hate that they ended the streak, no idea why they'd go that route, but everything else was basically perfect.

Almost God like? Maybe...

Who won the main, and did punk return?

Don't see the point in Lesnar taking the streak as he is only part time.

Almost God like? Maybe...

Just seen the Brock/taker finish on you tube,  I think they are going for a Montreal angle,  the count looked quick and taker kicked out.

Raw will have taker say he wasn't beaten, and will set up a double or quits match at next year's mania. If taker wins next year then this result is reversed, and he's 23-0.

Crowd reaction was great tho!

I think its over. Taker is gone until his HOF year.

Also Lesnar will probably be WWE Champion heading into next years Mania.

I went out to Walkabout (an Aussie themed bar/club) to watch Mania with my brother and some mates.  Such an awesome night.  They had these two big ass screens and loads of people.  It did kinda feel like being there when you're surrounded by so many die hard wrestling fans all chanting stuff!  There was this one group of people dressed up (remember them a few years ago chux at one of our shows?) as Goldust, Raven, Jericho and Bray Wyatt.  They were great, and kept doing mock matches when we were all waiting for Mania to start.

We hung out with a very vocal group, which was awesome.  They'd start a "YES!" chant, we'd join in, and it'd spread through the club.  Everyone was pumped for everything.  Every Yes chant, everyone singing along to the entrance music.

Some general thoughts on the show with reactions from the club:

Opening promo:
This was awesome, seeing Austin (all time fav!  I was even wearing my Austin 3:16 shirt last night), Hogan and Rock together.  Austin got such a loud pop in the club, and the place went nuts when Austin and Hogan had their stare down.  The speakers were still adjusting, so we didn't quite catch everything that was said.  But we could all hear the catchphrases, and said them along with them.

Triple H vs. Bryan:
Really solid match that told a story perfectly.  This match had everyone in the palm of its hand.  They were transfixed!  Everyone loved everything Bryan did and the nearfalls were great.

Shield vs. Kane and the Outlaws:
That was how long it should've been, perfect little squash match to show how dominant the Shield are.  Makes it all the more tragic when they do split up.  Glad they're having this face run first though!  The Shield was over big time, though everyone loved singing along to the Outlaws' music.

Battle Royal:
Once this match got going (i.e. the filler were chucked out) this was a lot of fun.  Some really cool spots, like Kofi's near elimination, made it a great watch.  I picked Sheamus to win, but I was so glad it was Cesaro.  Another one who was over big time with everyone, so this made everyone happy!

Cena vs. Wyatt:
Wyatt was over big time!  There were actually a few people dressed as Wyatt dotted around.  Loved the entrance, so chilling.  Cena was booed a lot, as you can imagine.  The match was pretty decent, nothing too special.  Wyatt's mannerisms were great though!  People weren't happy about the Cena win, but at least it wasn't a squash.  There was some decent back and forth so we didn't get the Cena beat-down for 20 mins then 5 moves of doom from outta nowhere for the win.

Undertaker vs. Lesnar:
Just like the rest of existence, I can't believe this happened.  The match itself was pretty slow and formulaic.  Taker vs. Lesnar HiaC is one of my all time favourite matches, so I had high hopes for it.  But that was 12 years ago, so I don't mind too much that it was slower.  But Lesnar winning?  When that happened the club was dead.  Everyone was in a state of shock as to what happened.  Hell, my mouth hung open for ages.  I couldn't get over it.

I've got the feeling Taker's calling it a day though.  The way all the commentators and the crew gave him a standing ovation, the slow walk up the ramp, I just really think that was it for the Deadman.  A lot of people thought the same too, so Taker got such a loud applause by everyone.  But boy were people pissed.  My comment of "at least it wasn't Cena!" cheered some people up, but they were so angry.  Some guys were even crying!  I think it was more so their choice in who ended the Streak rather than the fact that they ended it, and how it ended.  I heard a lot of guys in the bathroom complaining about a part timer doing it rather than someone who could actually benefit from it.  The Streak should have ended after a Michaels/Taker match.  Maybe that's why they ended it, because Taker can't go like that anymore.

The Divas Match:
No one was paying any attention to this after Taker vs. Lesnar.  In fact my group vanished!  Goodness knows where.  I went to chat to my friend Zoe, who was working behind the bar that night (she doesn't like wrestling, so didn't get what the fuss was about with Taker vs. Lesnar, despite me trying to explain).  Can't remember the match, but I was glad AJ won.  With the exception of Natalya, she's the only one who should be the champ.

Triple Threat:
Everyone was still in a state of shock about Taker vs. Lesnar when this started, so no one was into it.  The Yes chants were half-hearted at the start.  About half way through though everyone had calmed down somewhat and started to enjoy it.  The Batista-bomb into an RKO through the table was nuts!  Such an awesome spot!  The club went wild when Bryan won.  Everyone jumping up and down, screaming, hugging each other.

Final Thoughts:
A really good show, I thought.  Missed Punk and Jericho mind.  Everything was great, apart from the Cena win (though it was expected) and the Streak ending.  I've just read that Taker went to the hospital afterwards, with Lesnar and Heyman.  I hope he's alright.  Another report saying Vince didn't want the Streak to end.  We're going to get "news" reports all over the place for the next few weeks now.

Obviously we need to wait for Raw tomorrow night, but at the moment, I think we've seen Taker's last match.  And that really does make me quite emotional.  The Undertaker was my favourite when I first started to watch in 1998, along with Austin, so it feels so surreal to think that's it for the Deadman.  Thank you Taker for all your hard work, and for the countless memories.  You've earned your rest!!

Top to bottom, this is probably the best Wrestlemania since 23. Awesome show.

The opening segment with Hogan, Austin and Rock; the top 3 biggest names in WWE history I would argue, standing in the middle of the ring and having a great time. Considering it was a cock-up, the Superdome/Silverdome mix up was used to great effect and made the segment all the more memorable. Moment of the night until later.

The opener was excellent. The whole story that played out throughout the night between Bryan and the Authority was played to perfection and culminated in an excellent moment to put the cherry on top of a very solid 3 way match.

The big story though, is the Streak ending. If they were going to end it, in hindsight Lesnar is a great choice. You have a freak who over the course of the match pummelled the Undertaker and before the match (not mentioned in the buildup) has never lost to Undertaker. Despite his crap record at Wrestlemania, the character itself posed the biggest threat ever to the Streak and from a storyline standpoint, made total sense. Behind the scenes, I think the choice as to who defeats  Undertaker could've been better planned. I don't buy the argument of using the Streak to advance someone's career, I see the idea of breaking a record as something which seals the legacy of a career which makes perfect sense why Lesnar was chosen. I just think that if this was the plan, losing to HHH last year and being taken to the limit by Punk wasn't the best way to build a 'Beast' for what is now his greatest win in Pro Wrestling. Post Wrestlemania, I think the Authority will recruit Lesnar to take out Bryan and have a run with the WWE Title whilst Undertaker v. Sting at WM31 as a retirement match for both men would be something that I'd do.

This sums it up pretty well...

takersfansshocked.png

It was totally a what the hell moment... the final f5 that finished him.. even i sat there watching it like it was in super slow motion with dramatic movie score taking over my sound...and watched the count in my mind i thought there is no way he is kicking out of that one.. but he will he is the taker... and no! he didn't! i was shocked i never thought it would happen... i felt like i was waiting for something to happen.. but what would happen? Brock won clean... i had a few laughs in celebration of the takers career shortly after... didn't even realize the divas match was going on either.. i was still in a daze.

the show was actually pretty good.. and i thought i'd be ripping it up and trashing wwe afterwords.

i was kinda hoping Sting would come out anyways... stupid rumors.

Snake, I was sort of the same when it sunk it a bit.  When it happened I was frozen, and I was just starting at the screen with my mouth hanging open for ages.  Then it just hit me, "Taker's retiring".  I wasn't fuming like everyone else, I kinda knew it would probably end one day (Taker's old school, and follows the rule of putting over your opponent in your last match), though I hoped it wouldn't.  So I just clapped for Taker, my way of saying thank you for everything.

Though of course we have to wait for Raw tonight to get the full picture.  Taker might not be retiring!!

Though there is a silver lining, just think of the Heyman promos we'll get now!!!!

I heard a good ten years ago that Walkabout showed wrestling, but that was back when Raws and SmackDowns were delayed and shown on Friday and Saturday evenings. I had no idea they'd do live shows. I'll definitely have to consider coming up for Extreme Rules. We have one down here too, so if you feel like making the trip...!

I was in a daze too Snaker. Watched the divas and noticed the wacky finish with AJ forcing Naomi to tap while she tapped anyway with the other hand, but wasn't really feeling it anymore. I stayed like that until Bryan kicked Armstrong in the head, that shocked me back into life and I started to enjoy the show again.

Excellent show overall, I loved basically all of it. Except the streak, obviously. That was ridiculous and I can't think of any reasoning they can give to justify it. I don't care that Lesnar is legit, I don't care that Taker is retiring, I don't even care if that's what Taker wanted to do. There's no good reason to end such a legend. I complain all the time that Kane, Show and Henry have been around way too long and are stale as hell with their constant turns. The streak is even older. We hate Cena because he's been around forever, Orton too. They both had their first Mania matches at XX, making last night their 11th Mania. Taker's streak is the same as both of theirs combined. The legacy there is incredible, unlike anything else. Ending a long title reign or a streak like Goldberg's can be used to get someone over, but has Lesnar been elevated at all from this? I don't see it. He was claiming contendership in January, maybe now he gets a shot at Extreme Rules. Wow. He probably would have been next in line anyway!

And it's not just about Lesnar being too big for the spot or whatever, I'm not saying it should have been given to Reigns or Langston or Cesaro or whoever. I don't think anyone would benefit from it at this point. Orton in 2005, maybe. Now what we've lost is bigger than any gain they could have taken from the win. How long could someone live off breaking the streak? Say Reigns has a 25 year career of his own, would he still be bragging about breaking the streak in 2030? I don't see it. Jericho bragged about beating Rock and Austin in the same night for a decade, it stopped being relevant six months after he did it. He won the title, lost the title, then what? It doesn't matter anymore. Lesnar, or Heyman really, can brag about this for the next month as he demands a title match, and then it's over. On to the next thing.

The streak was synonymous with WrestleMania, it's been part of the show for longer than most of us have been watching and longer than some of us (Jek!) have been alive. Ending it for any reason to me is like not holding WrestleMania next year. Why wouldn't you? There's no reason good enough. Even if WWE loses all its money on the network somehow, as long as the company is alive they'd find some bingo hall to run in. Even if Taker is old and broken down, he can still hit a tombstone.

I dont understand it either. I was one of those guys who just knew it would never be broken. I was stunned all the way through til late in the main event. I still can't believe it. I even had a 'am I dreaming?' Moment when it happened.

The streak was always gonna end, eventually Taker would just die or just be too old. But I never thought someone would actually break the streak. I always knew it was gonna be Taker retiring and no other way.

Shows you can never predict wrestling with 100 percent certainty.
