NWO question

I know a bunch of you are too young to have been smarks around the time, but how many people do you think knew Hogan was the 3rd guy?

I wouldn't say it seems obvious looking back, but he wasn't heavily involved in the picture at the time, so I wonder how many "insiders" and all that guessed correctly he'd be the 3rd guy.

I figure some of you might have researched this in the past and would be delighted to tell me your results.

Also, I'm watching the NWO on netflix right now.

I may be a little off because it's been a while, but as I remember it was fairly well known to smart fans. There was another potential guy, I think Luger, but by the PPV weekend it was pretty clearly going to be Hogan. I guess the smart fanbase was smaller back then, but anyone reading newsletters would have had a good idea of what was going on.

And even if you didn't read those newsletters, if you were watching on TV you knew as soon as Heenan said "but who's side is he on?" Gave that whole thing away. At least the crowd didn't see it coming

It was actually pretty interesting. wwe had smacked wcw with a lawsuit saying that they were misrepresenting Nash & Hall as being 'from the wwf,' so they had to say it over and over again that H&N weren't employed by wwf.

AS the big match was happening, if you didn't know the dirt sheet stuff, you could still see the turn coming. It was a 3 on 3 match, but H&N were only 2 vs 3. When Hogan showed up, they were like 'who's side is he on' - which, to me, made no sense, was the match going to turn into a 4 on 2 match? So, whoever showed up was 'the third guy.'

I think that, eventually, everyone in that match eventually joined the nwo, lol. Then there was nwo japan... ug.

Yeah they really ran possibly the greatest stable ever into the ground with everyone possible joining at some point or another. Other factors obviously but I never understood why they had soooo many members

There were all sorts of names floating about. Lex was one of them because he was being a bastard on TV, cheating behind Sting's back and smacking fans. He was also being advertised in a match against Sting for a post BATB Nitro. Bret Hart was another Bischoff wanted because his contract was up, off TV and he fit perfectly in the invasion idea and had history with Hall & Nash. Bischoff said in his book it eventually got down to Sting & Hogan. Hogan had agreed to do it after he saw how it was catching on, but if he had second thoughts and no-showed the PPV. He would have sent Sting out because of his loyalty to WCW.
