New Page - History of 4w

As well as trying to get new members on the boards (seriously, any help would be apprecaited with that), I've been thinking about adding some extra pages (not a forum page) that will be good for the forums and new members.

One of the pages I was thinking about was a history of 4w page. Now I've followed 4w for about 10 years now, but I miss a lot of what went on in the past as I didn't pay that much attention. So really looking for a collective effort of what should go into the history of 4w, and this can then be updated by an admin whenever something significant happens.

So, I'm looking for ideas on what you'd all want to go into it. And once we have that, someone who'd like to do a draft write up. As myself and Chux are the only guys that would be able to add it to the site, if anyone wants to take on writing it up, then can send it to one of us to review and post.

What kind of history of 4w are you after? You meaning things from way back in 2000 and earlier when it was Keith Wilcut and Jeremy Bratcher and it just branched off from the main 4w-wrestling website to have a forum with only a pro wrestling forum before everything else got added etc...  they even had the 'history' tab on the main 4w page, which am sure can be found through the wayback machine... Where you would see pictures of them at events etc holding up the 4 finger salute etc...

Hell, I could talk for ages about those days back then hahaha

I'm afraid this is going to prove to be nearly impossible... i have tried in the past to recruit people who enjoy wwe/roh and others but they have no interest at all in joining forums or leaving their current one... not to mention even many of the people here i still talk to don't follow wrestling as much anymore... i still feel we need to expand and become more of entertainment forum with wrestling as the headliner... similar to 411mania i guess.

I really don't know what else to say as far as bringing in new people.. i like we still have what we have even if i only post in topics with a very limited audience for it.

I know talks of merging have come up but i have worried that might also make some people that have stuck it out all this time move on.. a concern i had about it was some of us who are popular and well known here may end up being nobodies and forgotten with a merge and we lose our original core.

I don't know but the doors of 4w may close but they never stay locked.

I'll never let 4w die. I refuse to since I'm paying to keep it going. I refuse to let it be wasted money even if I have to do everything myself.

New fans start all the time. Some older fans don't use forums. What's to say that we can't recruit some of them? There's a massive wrestling audience to appeal to.

And yeah, we're more than just a wrestling forum. So it doesn't even need to appeal to just wrestling fans. People can bring in film fans, sports fans, game fans. Whatever, as long as people use the forum.

As for history, I was thinking as far back as when the forums originally started up. Doesn't have to cover everything, but that's why I thought peoples opinions would help. We're all a part of 4w history on here, and the majority have been around for a very long time so we know plenty of it. Shouldn't be too hard for people to be able to put ideas together. Might even help if people realise that this isn't a completely new forum and that it has a very long and good history.

I understand but i'm saying this because i have spoken to our older members everyone tells me they don't have the time to visit as much... families, jobs.

also i have heard we need new blood for 4 or 5 years now and not much has changed except for maybe one member per year in those said years... everyone else visits hangs out for a few and goes away.

I'm not trying to be negative about this but i think we the core members here need to worry about actually having a reason for people to join because i come here every few days and i see very little difference in topics and some of the people i have spoken too have told me the same thing.. there is no reason to come here because nothing changes. and that is nobody's fault it's just what it is... i don't believe 4w will ever be gone for good.. until we all die off anyways.

again i'm not trying to be negative about this... it's just going to take a little time... we need to be patient and hopefully we will achieve the full revival we all want.

EDIT: somethings needed qoutes with them but i really don't feel like going back through that... if anything seems confusing i'll clear it up in a response.

Better than Essa

I don't see any way to get our name out there as a forum worth visiting, not over some of the other options. I like 4w because of the people here, it's more like facebook for me. If we were to get new users, I'm not convinced they would care about what happened on these boards 15 years ago. It means a lot to us because we were there and we know the people involved, but objectively it was just forum stuff. If we're trying to recruit new people, we should be focusing on the future.

Well I'm going to put the effort in. That's all it needs, a bit of effort.

The reasons people give for not posting pisses me off a bit. I remember a few years ago people saying that they weren't posting as there was no activity on the boards. Well there won't be if people aren't putting the effort in. Everyone seemed to gain the save view on it and that leads to no one posting and you end up with nothing.

I'm going to continue trying to recruit, as I believe that we can offer something different to other forums out there where there's thousands of posters and very few people know each other and opinions are missed because of it. If I have to do that on my own then so be it.

Almost God like? Maybe...

Fair play Benji.  Its hard work, and mostly thankless, but it's good that you are still trying.  I'm not a member of any other forum, I joined a couple when I was looking at fedding, but have blown them out in the hope that 4CW grows again, so I can't push this place to anyone else.  Plus, no one likes me, except maybe Big B, so who would follow me here...

I'll also keep posting in 4W for a while and keep the faith.

I'm with Chucky on the history thing tho, we should look forward and try to offer a point of difference to potential posters, instead of saying "this is how good we used to be".  4W is all about the future now, and it should be "this is how good we are going to be!"  What can we do that no one else does?  What can we do that others arnt doing?

It may even be about reviving the original 4W main page, and link the forum to the news page like it was with Bratcher and Wilcut (when Belly was just a tummy).  Would be a job to update that with fresh news stories and stuff tho.

The way I originally found the forums back in the day wa sobviously through the main website, and this was when they had literally just created the forums and there was only 1 sub forum, that being Pro Wrestling lol... Then I got to know Wilcut and Bratcher through the now old fashioned AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and I stuck around lol.

I could talk about the History of 4w for ages, but im not sure if anyone new coming to the forums would really be interested in what kind of past it has, they are more bothered about what is going on in the present...
