Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are upcoming role-playing video games developed by Game Freak and published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. They will be the first main series games in the eighth generation of the Pokémon franchise, and the second in the series to be released on a home console. The games are scheduled for a worldwide release on November 15, 2019.

Sword and Shield are set in the Galar region, which is heavily influenced by the Great Britain. Britain joins previous real-world inspirations like Japan, New York, Paris and Hawaii. There are a ton of features, new, old and returning...

Pokemon
There will be an undetermined amount of new Pokemon, some new forms of Pokemon and older Pokemon in Sword and Shield. Pokemon in this games' Pokedex can be transferred from older games. This means Pokemon not in Sword and Shield's Pokedex cannot be transferred into the game. Regional forms also make a return as there are different forms of existing Pokemon, exclusive to the Galar region. These include exclusive evolutions of older Pokemon. Below is a graphic of all confirmed Pokemon, thus far.

6_05_wildarea_5.jpg
Wild Area
The Wild Area is an open-world section of the game, in which the camera is movable (marking a first in the Pokemon franchise). Pokemon roam in the overworld in the Wild Area, making the most cinematic Pokemon experience yet.

7_8_gigantamax_2.jpg
Dynamax and Gigantamax
The newest battle feature is Dynamaxing. Dynamaxing a Pokemon super sizes it so that it fills a stadium. On top of this, Gigantamaxing a Pokemon makes it giant also, with an alternate form. These features last for three turns and can be used once per battle. All Pokemon in Sword and Shield can Dynamax, but only a select few can Gigantamax.

6_11_dynamax_3.jpg
Max Raid Battles
Players can play in co-op four person raid battles to defeat dynamaxed boss Pokemon, with a chance to capture exclusive Pokemon through this method.

Version Exclusives
There aren't many differences between the two versions, outside of a select few exclusive Pokemon and an exclusive gym leader.

8_7_yell_3.jpg
New Team
The traditional villain team is back in Sword and Shield, and this time it is in the form of Team Yell, who are essentially a toxic fanbase for an up and coming trainer, Marnie, who is also one of your rivals.

Poke Jobs
You will be able to send the Pokemon that are rotting in your PC out on jobs, like construction, education and other professions, in return for EXP points and rare items.

Will add more info as it is revealed.

Good post dude!

I don't know how excited I am for this. I feel like the old ones are still the best and they're adding a bit too much to them. Like, I didn't mind Sun & Moon, but there were so many parts that I just never went back to like the pokefinder, the whole berries thing, the pokedex being a living thing, Festival Plaza. Just not on board with all these little additions, which were thankfully easy enough to just ignore for the most part (apart from the dex which there was no getting away from). I've always prefered the simpler approach to the games.

Do love the regional variants for this game though. Saw the range of them Twitter yesterday and they look class.

They said that they were following the same approach as Lets Go, right? Where you can actually see the pokemon walking around in the wild? Of all the changes to the games in recent years, this is easily my favourite.

The good thing about Pokemon is despite all the new additions, you don’t really *have* to use them. Festival Plaza was annoying as fuck, but useful for trading/battling so I just used it for that lol

I love Pokemon. I just really feel like we had so much more info when Sun and Moon were two months out then we do now with Sword and Shield about two months out. I really need to see the starter evolutions to figure out who I pick. Admittedly though the minute I saw Obstagoon he landed a spot on my team.

Pokemon was one of the greatest things in my childhood. Just thinking about it makes me nostalgic. Honest question though, how much has changed since the original game besides graphics and roster?

The look of Zaclan still puzzles me. Pictures make it seem like the sword is attached to its side... But that makes the handle being in its mouth a bit weird. Or is it just sticking out to the side an awful lot? Like, is it a part of it? Because being in its mouth is really inconvenient. Zamazenta looks awesome, Zaclan just puzzles me.

Yeah the sword is just in his mouth. Not attached to his side.

But yes, Zamazenta is epic.

Zamazenta is by far the best. I agree about Zaclan, it just looks awkward. It's just carrying around a sword. I'd be better if it was more like a rhino and it was actually part of it. As it is, if it runs past people it's cutting them in half, and a dog like thing isn't doing to be able to swing a sword properly either. Although having your actual physical face as part of a shield isn't exactly a good idea either haha.

It’s changed a ton over the years. It still follows the basic formula for the most part, but the deeper you dive the more complicated it gets.

Couple of new Pokemon reveals from the other day:

pokemon_cramorant_2x.png
NAME: CRAMORANT
TYPE: WATER/FLYING

Cramorant’s Ability, Gulp Missile, is a new Ability introduced in these titles, and it can be triggered during battles. After Cramorant uses Surf or Dive, it will return with a catch in its mouth. If it takes damage while in this state, Cramorant will retaliate by spitting out its catch at the attacker!

And despite having a shield, Sirfetch'd is exclusive to Pokemon Sword.

The Isle of Armor has been really fun and really has me psyched for Crown Tundra. Also I'm super hyped to get the shiny Zeraora

Yeah, it's been good. But Crown Tundra will be the "main event" of the DLC, can't wait for that.

Missed a few of these posts first time round, so I'm just gonna react to Sirfetch'd now.... Holy crap that's amazing!!! :-D

Honestly, if I could find a decent deal on a switch, I might be tempted to get this myself. Been tempted by some of the older games too recently, especially X and Y. I dunno, I guess I'm a bit late to this party now! :-P
