What AEW need to move away from.

Main Event

For AEW to become successful, there's a few things that I think they need to take note off.

1. Stop ripping on WWE. Some of it's funny, but there were a lot of small references at All or Nothing. The biggest and most obvious was Cody smashing up a very Triple H like throne with a very Triple H like sledgehammer. It was fine for the event, but they need to leave that behind now and concentrate on themselves. That's the most important one, focus on themselves and ignore WWE for the most part.

2. They have a decent sized roster at the moment with 63 wrestlers signed on. That's a lot for a company that has only just started out. Whilst they do need some more signings, they need to avoid paying too much for the time being and avoid signing people for "name value" that don't bring anything else to the table. Just because someone knows a WWE wrestler, doesn't mean they would be of benefit to your company. Avoid stars of the past, basically.

3. This goes with number 2, in that it should be about the talent. I know some people are tired of the WWE product in that wrestlers are watered down and wrestle the WWE way. Wrestlers that we love seeing in NJPW and the like come to WWE and appear a shadow of their former selves. Sign the talent that are good enough and let fans enjoy wrestling. Build your own talent up, get fans invested in a great young wrestler that will continue to improve and get fans wanting to tune in to watch whatever epic match they'll put on next.

4. Avoid having too many titles. I think we can all agree that WWE have way too many titles now thanks to their absolutely massive roster, two brands (three if you want to include NXT), the womens division and their pointless tag titles. There's just way too many. I think AEW should stick to three titles maximum. The World Title, Tag Titles and then a secondary belt to the World Title, whatever that may be. Oh, and a womens title, so make that four maximum. Definitely can't forget the womens division as they have some good female talent signed on. Any more than that though is simply too much. Let those titles build up some prestige and the exposure they deserve.

5. Avoid Hulk Hogan. I just cannot see what he would bring to the table and given his reported contract at TNA, he'd just bleed them dry. He's just not needed.

6. Don't bother with monthly PPVs. The cost of them are huge. Save some money, take time building up for the few PPVs a year and fans will be going wild and picking up those tickets at a fast rate. Because that's the other problem with WWE, which they recognised to a degree when they removed a load of PPVs from their schedule. There is such a thing as too much. With the amount of wrestling PPVs there are anyway, fans can't attend them all unless they're all mega rich. So make them more special by not having to rush stories to each one. Build them up with a bit more time and great TV and let the tickets sell themselves.

7. Build up some long-term storylines. Unlike what WWE think, wrestling fans don't all have short memories. Some of the best WWE storylines have been the ones that have gone on for months and sometimes up to a whole year. Get a good writing team in with people that understand the business and people can get invested in what AEW are doing. It'd certainly help set them apart from WWE.

8. Avoid too many gimmick matches. Don't think I need to elaborate on this. Although I should also include don't make new ones that are either stupid (looking at you WWE with your on a pole matches and the punjabi prison) or too complicated for a casual viewer to understand. You don't and won't gain new fans who's first taste of AEW would be an awful or confusing gimmick match.

I think that covers it for me. What would you fine people add?

I'd say all that is pretty solid stuff. Common sense, really, but common sense seems to be hard to come by in the wrestling industry. I'd also add...

Don't make members of the Bullet Club the only stars of the show. Yeah, they are popular, but I don't want to see Omega vs Hangman Page or Cody for the next three years.

What surprised me more than anything was that after such a good show that has been having rave reviews... WWE go and put on a shit Raw with some seriously questionable segments. They're fine so long as they look at that and do the opposite. Concentrate on actual wrestling and stories. Spend wisely when they need to. Promote their own stars and don't use the Bullet Club like the NWO in WCW.
