PART THREE

Inside the office, a shocked Mr Andolini remains motionless holding onto the envelope, as it had been a long time since someone had surprised him, and the jovial mood that filled the office only moments earlier now felt like a life time ago, and the 20 seconds that past by felt almost like an hour to Mr Andolini before he turns around the envelope and tears open one end and produces from the envelope some sheets of paper.  Discarding the envelope on the floor, Mr Andolini begins to walk back towards his desk as he reads the first few lines of the document before once again freezing, feeling his whole world tumbling down around him, like the walls were crushing in on him and the ceilings were lowering as if to squash him yet he had nowhere to run to, the feeling he had in the pit of his stomach when he heard the words, 'You have been served' had come to fruition, he knew this is what it would be, he was never meant to be happy. But worst of all...she was right.

His attorney steps up to Mr Andolini and asks what the document says, but he receives no reply and thus he reaches out and takes a gentle hold of the document at which point Mr Andolini releases his grip and the attorney begins to quickly scan the documents and it doesn't take him long to realise why Mr Andolini had frozen still, and after seeing the word 'Divorce' on the first page of the document he quickly scans to the last page and sees the date that Eden had signed the papers...

"These are dated the thirtieth. That was only four days after your wedding."

Mr Andolini slowly turns his head to his attorney as his teeth begin to grind against each other and his jaw becomes tense, his eyes begin to bulge a little as he snatches the document from his attorney's hands and begins to shred them into little pieces, screaming profanities as he does and shouting random mutterings and rhetorical questions as the document is made into tiny little pieces.  Once there is no more paper to shred, he reaches out to his desk, grabbing anything he can get his hand on and throws them against the wall, from his filofax to his phone and laptop, everything goes flying crashing off the wall, papers going everywhere until his desk is completely emptied of everything that was on top of it, his attorney standing back in fright as he had seen Mr Andolini mad before, he had seen him a little crazy but he had never seen him like this, he was seething, being made to feel a fool after he realises everything he was warned about by his daughter had come true, realising that he had alienated himself from his whole family for this woman who has just screwed him over...  Then as if a sudden air of calm had descended upon the office, Mr Andolini stops, he calmly adjusts his tie and straightens it up, looking around and surveying the destruction, he turns to his attorney with a kind of sickly smile on his face.

"Jim. Get me Pinash."

Instantly, his attorney knew what he had in mind, there was only going to be one reason that he wanted Bobby Pinash and as a legal counsel it wasn't anything he wanted to be involved, thoughts running through his head instantly, about possible alibis and ways he could distance himself from any actions that Mr Andolini was thinking about, after all how could he defend a man if he was in a jail cell next to him...

"Jim. The number. NOW!"

The attorney's hands begin to shake as he reaches in his pocket to his mobile, realising that even by having his number in his phone, he could be associated with what was about to happen, his mind working over time thinking then suddenly it was like a proverbial light bulb turning on inside his head, all his years of law school was about to be repaid and this couldn't have come at a more apt moment, finally, studying had paid off. The more he thought about the idea, the more confident he became as he hands stopped shaking, and he stood up straight, clearing his throat, he knew he was a good attorney and he was about to show Mr Andolini why he had been paying him a retainer all these years and it wasn't just to broker business deals, he was about to show his true worth.

"Mr Andolini, sir. As your legal counsel I must play the voice of reason. Calmer heads prevail, yes? There is another option, one with less...penal consequences."

Mr Andolini turns around confused and just as he was about to dismiss what Jim had said, he sees the air of confidence that was surrounding his attorney, this was a look he hadn't seen in a long time, and it made him reign in his words before they escaped his mouth, as he gave Jim a chance to table a second option.

Mid Card

nice reference to bobby pinash. I'm excited to see what the future holds in store this attorney seems like he has something up his sleeve we'll see if he knows what he's doing.

Once a man would spend a week patiently waiting if he missed a stage coach, but now he rages if he misses the first section of a revolving door.
