Well, so much for the FA trying to develop the English game etc as last season English Under 21's made up just 2.28% of the total minutes played in the season and even worse than that.. the following clubs never fielded an English Under 21 player all season:

Manchester City
Chelsea
Swansea
Stoke
Wigan

This figure is lower than the same percentage for Italy (2.38%) , Spain (3.4%), Germany (6.22%) and France (7.32%)

This probably has something to do with the fact that The Premier League already has the lowest number of national players across all ages at 42.9% compared to Italy (45.6%), Germany (55.4%), Spain (61.6%) and France (71.6%)

Jek

It's simple really; the English aren't that good at football. We might've created the sport but other countries do it so much better. Also the fact that a lot of English players are over priced and getting talented young players from abroad for cheap is killing young English players because they rarely get the chance to shine in the premier league and end up getting mismanaged.

I think Arsenal are the best team when it comes to young English talent. I doubt there's much teams out there that have players like Wilshere, Walcott, The Ox, Gibbs and Jenkinson just to name a few. And it looks like the most talented are in North London if you add the likes of Walker and Caulker (sound like a double act) in that list.

I guess the Woes for the English Under 21's is continuing its trend, losing 3 in a row...

Do you blame Stuart Pearce? Is it time to get rid of his old fashioned style and way of thinking, or do you support Pearce and are behind him when he blames the players??

Bit of both. He's not entirely blameless, but then he's not helped either. He was missing some great players as Hodgson called them up for meaningless friendlies instead, whereas other nations are taking their best young players to U21 tournaments. Pearce isn't helped by the FA and the senior National team.

Still... even without our better U21 players, you'd think we'd be able to beat Israel.

By the FA allowing Hodgson to call some of the better players up to the National squad, it kind of gives you an understanding on what they think of the U21 team and are not really to bothered about it, until they lose and now, because there is nothing else to focus on, all the attention is on the U21 squad and onto Pearce...

I cant blame for Pearce coming out and blaming the players, it was them on the pitch, and it was them who lost the games no matter who was in charge...  Its a little different for the National Team than it is at Club Level, because at club level, managers often don't come out and blame players etc because they have to pick up the pieces and try keep morale up and keep problems within the camp etc (Doesn't always work haha) But at National Level, Pearce should have the freedom to be more honest, these players should be wanting to perform to the best of their abilities...

Cant help feel that Pearce is going to be made the scape goat here though...

Yep, and everyone will conveniently ignore that a good portion of the players that he used in the qualifying campaign were not made available to him for the tournament.

Better than Essa

I watched the Norway match and I thought we looked pretty good. The passing and movement was better and more confident than the senior team for huge parts of the game. Obviously it's not good enough, but I'm not blaming the players just yet.

Well Stuart Pearce is out as the England Under 21 Coach..

The FA had definitely put England's first team friendlies ahead of the Under 21 actual European championships in the line of priorities as 7 of Stuart Pearce's starting 11 were unavailable for him to select as they had gone to play the England first team friendlies (Jack Rodwell, Kyle Walker, Phil Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin, Jack Wilshere & Danny Welbeck)...  IF The FA had prioritised the Under 21 Championships then the results would have been so much different...

Before this Championship, The Under 21 team had been undefeated since November 2011

But here we are, Stuart Pearce is being made the scape goat and now the bookies favourite to replace him is Gareth Southgate, but Glen Hoddle and Phil Neville have also been linked to the post...

The majority of Swansea's young players are welsh, so that would explain the lack of England U21's. But players such as Joe Allen have come from the Swansea youth squad and done well for themselves.

Gareth Southgate has been appointed the new U21 manager. Not a bad appointment, but it won't change anything as come the U21 tournaments he'll lose all the good U21 players to meaningless senior squad friendlies.
