So the free agent, Rob Van Dam is to return to WWE and unusually, rather than keeping it a surprise, they have decided to announce that he will return and told us when he will return as well...

As announced at WWE Payback, Rob Van Dam will return at Money in the Bank on July 14 in the ECW hotbed of Philadelphia. The dynamic highflier was briefly spotted at this year’s WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Madison Square Garden, but other than an appearance in the 2009 Royal Rumble Match, Van Dam has not seen action in WWE for six years.

A lot has changed in the six years since Rob Van Dam has been gone. What will be Mr. Pay-Per-View’s objective when he returns to pay-per-view at Money in the Bank? RVD has already been Mr. Money in the Bank, but will he try his hand at another eponymous Ladder Match? Considering his history with Heyman, will Van Dam align with his former mentor or challenge Punk to a duel over the more impressive historic title reign? Or will Van Dam go after Ryback for adopting his airbrushed singlet style? Regardless, Mr. Pay-Per-View will be sure to impress at Money in the Bank. After all, he’s one of a kind.

Any thoughts on what his impact will be? I personally used to be a huge fan of RVD but his last run in TNA I wasn't too impressed with, he never seemed to give 100% which I hope wont be the same here.. I guess by announcing RVD the way they did the Rock, rather than keep it a surprise they are hoping for a boost in Buys for MITB etc, personally id rather have had it a surprise return

I think they did the right thing doing it this way. The crowd at Payback were chanting RVD for the rest of the night. If they keep hyping his return over the next few weeks, it'll definitely help the buyrates of Money in the Bank. It's one thing that he's returning, but the fact it's at MITB makes it all the bigger news.

I'm assuming he'll be put into the MITB ladder match, but I would absolutely love it if he was put into a program with CM Punk or something.

His contract is reportedly to be on a short Term basis and he wont be on the road full time either..

Pushing that to one side though, it might be worth watching the PPV just to see the reaction when he comes out etc... and if it is just a short term deal, I hope they can get the best out of him and use him well for the short term... Coming in against CM Punk but be a nice way to do it and ensure that Punks opponent get a louder cheer and more support than he would which apart from D-Bry, I cant think of many others in WWE that would get as good a reaction in Philly than Punk.

I haven't really watched wrestling for awhile but somebody please tell me something like this wouldn't happen? Even the fact that it gets a mention makes me feel a little ill.
