GWA Blaze 66
Live from Detroit, Michigan

The opening video, accompanied by GWA's official theme song, "Devour" by Shinedown", plays highlighting past icons such as Daniel Bryan, Triple H, Kane, Rhyno and Paul Burchill. It shows quick highlights of newer stars such as Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles and Bray Wyatt. Flash flicks of Rhyno, Japanese Honor and Ryback end the intro package and we jump to the live arena to a sold-out crowd.

Mauro Ranallo: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the return of GWA Blaze! This is Blaze number 66 and tonight, we start an 8-man tournament to crown the new GWA Heavyweight Champion. I'm joined by Corey Graves at ringside, and Corey, looks like we're in for a history making show tonight!
Corey Graves: You're not wrong, Mauro, not only do we have two matches for the World Title Tournament; but our main event will be a triple threat between three of the best female competitors in the world at the moment: Sasha Banks, Bayley and Asuka – the winner will be the new GWA Womens Champion!

Eden Stiles: The following GWA Heavyweight Championship Tournament first round contest is scheduled for one fall, introducing first, weighing in at 295lbs, The War Machine, RHYNO!!

Rhyno means business as he marches to the ring, sliding in and motioning for the microphone from Eden, who gives it to him and leaves the ring.

Rhyno: Finally, the Global Wrestling Alliance is open for business once more and I'm fixing for a fight. This tournament will be my history-making return as I become the first ever 2-time GWA Heavyweight Champion. I'm a WAR MACHINE! I'm the biggest and baddest monster in this company! Ryback, we have no bad blood, but unfortunately for you, you're in the way of my history-making return, which means I'm going to break you in half with a GORE! GORE! GORE!!

Ryback comes out with a mic already in hand. He waits for the music and the crowd to quieten down before speaking.

Ryback: I'll keep this simple. You talk big. Let's see if you can act big. How about you prove how much of a monster you are and we make this match No Holds Barred?

Rhyno grins menacingly.

Rhyno: You're on!

Rhyno drops the mic and Ryback's music continues to play as he makes his way to the ring.

Mauro Ranallo: Looks like this match is going to be No Holds Barred!
Corey Graves: What a way to kick off the show! Only in GWA do you see hard-hitting action like this!

MATCH ONE – NO HOLDS BARRED
GWA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT
RHYNO VS RYBACK

-The two monsters go back and forth in the opponent minutes, sharing clotheslines, powerslams and body slams to start things off.
-The match eventually spills to the outside and Ryback goes into the steel steps before getting charged into the barricade too. Rhyno rips the announce table apart and sets up Ryback for a Powerbomb; but the Big Guy reverses and back body drops Rhyno through the table.
-Ryback controls the match as he gets Rhyno back into the ring. He sets up Ryback for a Shellshock; but Rhyno escapes his grip and takes out Ryback with a German Suplex.
-Rhyno goes to the apron and pulls out a table from under the ring and brings it back into the ring with him. Ryback gets time to recover and jumps Ryback when Rhyno gets back into the ring and takes him out with a Shellshock out of nowhere – but Rhyno kicks out!
-Ryback sets Rhyno up for a Powerbomb on the table; but Rhyno fights out of Ryback's hold and reverses the set up, powerbombing Ryback through the table and getting the pinfall.
WINNER BY PINFALL: RHYNO @ 8:46

Mauro Ranallo: That was an all-out brawl between two monsters here in GWA but it was the War Machine that came out on top and has advanced to the semi finals!
Corey Graves: He's just two wins away from becoming the first-ever 2-time World Champion here in GWA!

We cut backstage where interviewer Tom Phillips is with Bayley.

Tom Phillips: Ladies and gentlemen, I'm here live with Bayley. Tonight Bayley, you take on Sasha Banks and Asuka in a triple threat match for the GWA Womens Championship. What is your mindset going into this match?
Bayley: You know what, I'm ready. I'm ready to achieve my dream of becoming GWA Womens Champion and I'm ready to do it with the help of my fans... and as an added bonus, it'll be my debut match. Asuka and Sasha best not underestimate me as it will be their undoing.

Bayley leaves the interview area, looking confident, and Phillips signals back to the commentary team.

Before that though, we cut to a video package, advertising the next GWA PPV, WrestleWars II, which is just five weeks away – live from Chicago, Illinois!

Mauro Ranallo: Welcome back to GWA! Earlier tonight, in our opening contest we saw Rhyno take on Ryback in a No Holds Barred match – Rhyno won that match and is advancing to the semi-finals of the GWA World Title Tournament!

Corey Graves: And here comes the owner of GWA!

Triple H comes out dressed in a suit. He has the GWA Heavyweight Championship on his shoulder as he walks down to the ring with a grin on his face.

Eden Stiles: Ladies and gentlemen please welcome, the owner of GWA, THE GAME, TRIPLLLLLLLE H!!

Mauro Ranallo: And that right there on Triple H's shoulder is what the tournament is all about – the most prestigious prize in Pro Wrestling!

Triple H enters the ring, takes Stiles' mic and thanks her as she leaves the ring.

Triple H: It's good to see you all out here tonight! Everyone here at GWA wants to thank you, the fans, for showing up, because without you, none of this matters... and speaking of things that matter, what I have here on my shoulder is the GWA Heavyweight Championship. This bad boy is going to be contested in the 8-man tournament that kicked off earlier with Rhyno and Ryback. Whoever wins that tournament, in the final match, at the main event of WrestleWars, will get the honour of wearing this belt...

Triple H puts the belt on a table set up already and continues.

Triple H: While the tournament is important, I didn't come out here to talk about that. I came out here to talk about one thing: respect. I have made a lot of friends, and even more enemies, in my career. Some of them I absolutely despised, some of them I just relished the competition... but for all my greatest rivals, I respected the hell out of all of them – and it may surprise you to hear that the one I respected the most, well, I don't think we ever saw eye-to-eye – certainly not in a GWA ring. That man is the man I have chosen, due to his unbreakable resolve, and his dedication to this industry, the General Manager of GWA Blaze from here on out. Recently he retired due to not being medically cleared to wrestle anymore – and now he's here to help call the shouts – it's DANIEL BRYAN!!

There is a clear mixed reaction as Bryan comes out to the ring, with a suit too, his hair cut and beard trimmed, and he nods to a few members of the crowd on the way down, but stays quite mellow and enters the ring quickly.

Daniel Bryan: Before we start, I want to acknowledge the elephant in the room. As of the last time you saw me, you didn't like me very much. I don't want to assume that's changed. Honestly, I don't care if you boo me or cheer me, because I'll tell you one thing with certainty – you here tonight and those watching at home have always appreciated and applauded my in-ring ability – and honestly, that's more important to me than whether I'm liked – but I am here to take this job seriously and since I had to retire – which was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do – I decided to continue my career as the General Manager of GWA. When Triple H offered me the job, I was surprised but humbled and grateful and if it means I get to be here, week in, week out, to enjoy the wrestling, enjoy your reaction to the wrestling, and helping to mould the future of this buisness – well, I don't think that's a bad way to go... so, with that in mind, I want to talk about a few things about WrestleWars and - -

The crowd, who were kind of warming up to Bryan despite his last run in GWA, immediately switch to huge heat as Kevin Owens interrupts the new General Manager and Triple H. Owens already has a mic in hand, with his usual attire of sleeveless top and shorts. He enters the ring, gets uncomfortably close to Triple H and Daniel Bryan in turn and smirks. When his music stops, Owens has to speak up a little to be heard under the raging boos.

Kevin Owens: It's funny -
Daniel Bryan: What's funny, Kevin? That you came out here to interrupt the new General Manager, your new boss?

Owens grins.

Kevin Owens: Actually yeah, that's hilarious – because I don't give a crap who you are – or you, Hunter – yeah that's right, I'm talking to you – I'm not intimidated by anyone and certainly not either one of you. I know you know how talented I am, because you signed me to a contract, so don't go pretending like I'm not the most important person on your payroll.

Triple H raises his eyebrow and Owens turns his attention to Bryan.

Kevin Owens: I'm out here, interrupting you, Bryan, because you decided to insult me just now. You said you were here to help mould the future of this buisness. Let me ask you something, does it look like the future of this buisness, that's me, by the way, needs ANY help from you to be successful?

Bryan tries to speak but Owens talks over him.

Owens: I'm not done yet, pipsqueak... see, our paths have been very similar in our careers, Bryan, we both did similar things, wrestled in all the same promotions, made it to the top around the same time... and then, what happened next? Oh yeah, I solidified my spot as a top guy in this buisness while you became a crock and fished for the sympathy vote to still put money on your family's table.

The crowd are audibly shocked by these comments and Bryan cuts in.

Bryan: It's funny how this crock became the first-ever GWA Triple Crown champion before you'd so much as won a single GWA title – oh wait, that's right, you've NEVER won a GWA Championship. And here I was thinking for a second like you had some leg to stand on with your argument. You aren't out here because I insulted you, you are out here because you are a bully – and you thought the retired wrestler would be a perfect person to look good against.

The tension starts to thicken as Owens is obviously getting angry. He gets in Bryan's face.

Owens: Listen here, B+, I'm better now than you have ever been in your career. And you wanna throw shots thinking your retirement's gonna protect you?

Owens laughs and then face pushes Daniel Bryan to the ground. Before he knows what's happening, Triple H pounces on Owens, throwing rights repeatedly until Kevin regains his composure and knees Triple H in the ribs, before throwing him over the top rope!

Mauro Ranallo: What disgusting actions by Kevin Owens there, assaulting the retired and not medically cleared Daniel Bryan! Come on, Kevin, have some respect!
Corey Graves: I don't agree with his methods, particularly, but I'm not about to go stop him.

Owens stalks Bryan and picks him up, looking like he is going to send him to the ropes, when...

Dean Ambrose is here! He sprints down the ramp and unleashes a flurry of lefts and rights on Owens! Owens regains his compusure and sends Ambrose through the ropes but he rebounds and takes out KO! Bryan, who had since rolled out of the ring, gets back on the mic.

Daniel Bryan: Kevin, your match with Ambrose in the GWA Heavyweight Championship tournament starts now – and you'd better hope you win – because that's your only ticket to a match at WrestleWars!

Ambrose is all fired up as the ref tries to get Ambrose to the corner to start this match. Bryan manages to convince Triple H to leave Owens to Ambrose and they both leave the ring area.

Mauro Ranallo: Owens has dug himself a hole now – Bryan has essentially told Owens that if he doesn't win this tournament, he's not on the WrestleWars card!
Corey Graves: We all know how much Owens wants to be on top of the card! This match should be awesome!

MATCH TWO
GWA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT
DEAN AMBROSE VS KEVIN OWENS

-Ambrose gets straight back to taking out Owens as soon as the ref rings the bell, cornering him with more shots to the gut. Ambrose runs back and charges forward with a corner splash and abulldog on Owens. Ambrose gets to the top rope and takes out Owens with a dropkick before setting up for an early Dirty Deeds – but Owens fights out of it and takes out Ambrose with a clothesline of his own.
-The enraged Owens recovers from the early assault and starts to dominate; he slaps Ambrose around, screaming obscenities in his face in between slaps or strikes. Owens hits a few power moves and hits the senton. He even hits the cannonball senton and gets a couple of two counts.
-Owens starts to beat on Ambrose in the corners, making the ref count to four before releasing The Lunatic Fringe and it's these dirty tactics that allow him to dominate further. Ambrose picks up a little head of steam for a bit but Ambrose eventually hits the Pop-Up Powerbomb. Owens is confident it's over but Ambrose kicks out! Furious, Owens sets up for a second – but Ambrose reverses and hits Dirty Deeds! Owens kicks out too.
-The final slugging contest happens late on as both men trade lefts and rights. Ambrose sets up for a second Dirty Deeds – Owens reverses into a Pop-Up Powerbomb attempt – Ambrose escapes and rolls up Owens. 1..2..3!
WINNER BY PINFALL: DEAN AMBROSE @ 11:11

Ambrose rolls out of the ring as Owens shoots back up, shocked, barely believing he just let himself get rolled up!

Mauro Ranallo: He's done it! Ambrose is through to the semi finals of the tournament and Kevin Owens is out!
Corey Graves: Owens is going to be furious – how will he get on the WrestleWars card now?!

As Ambrose celebrates up the ramp, Owens stews in the ring. He looks livid and just stares up the ramp as the camera closes in on him.

Backstage again and we're back with Tom Phillips – who again is with a lovely lady – this time it's Sasha Banks!
Tom Phillips: I'm here with Sasha Banks. Earlier, we heard Bayley's thoughts on the main event tonight that you are a part of for the Womens Title – I just wanted to hear your thoughts too.

Sasha Banks raises her brow, looks at Tom like he's dirt, and even lifts her hand as she speaks to get her point across.

Sasha Banks: First of all, Todd, you should have come to me first.
Tom Phillips: It's actually Tom...
Sasha Banks: I don't care what your name is, nerd. All I care about is you give me the proper respect I deserve. I am the best wrestler in this company, man or woman. My two opponents? Some happy-go-lucky nerd like you and a woman who thinks she's the greatest because she wrestled in Japan? I'm called "The Boss" for good reason and tonight, I'm going out on the grandest TV show in wrestling, main eventing the show, and winning the GWA Womens Championship. My thoughts are nothing other than that. Now if you don't have anything interesting to say, I'm busy.

Sasha adjusts her glasses and walks away, leaving Tom looking stupid, as usual.

We cut back to the commentary table.

Ranallo: We just want to thank you all for joining us tonight and we have an announcement. Next week on GWA Blaze, our main event will be a Battle Royal to crown a NEW GWA Television Champion! Whoever wins that title will have to defend it each and every week on Blaze!

Eden Stiles: The following tag team contest is scheduled for one fall, introducing first, the team of Jason Jordan and Chad Gable, AMERICAAAN ALPHA!

Eden Stiles: And their opponents, the team of Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, THE AMERICAAAN WOOOLVES!

Mauro Ranallo: If there's one thing we definitely agree on Graves, it's that GWA has the best tag division in the world!
Corey Graves: You got that right! American Wolves and American Alpha are incredibly talented not only as a tag team but also as individuals! Both of them have a chance to impress Triple H and Daniel Bryan tonight.

MATCH THREE
TAG TEAM MATCH
AMERICAN ALPHA (Gable & Jordan) VS AMERICAN WOLVES (Richards & Edwards)

-For three minutes the two teams are quite even. Jordan controls the first minute or so before Richards takes over for a bit – and then Edwards even gets in a tag to start working on Jordan when suddenly Harper and Rowan come strolling down from the stage.
-Jordan fights back, unaware of their presence. Rowan takes out Gable on the apron and Harper takes out Richards, giving the ref no choice but to end the match.
WINNER: NO CONTEST @ 3:13

As the bell rings, Harper and Rowan beat down on both teams; their size being an important factor. Once American Alpha roll out of the ring, American Wolves get the worst of the beating as Harper takes out both men with big boots while Rowan stomps them and tosses them out of the ring.

Graves: Well, I don't know what the hell that was all about – but I think Harper and Rowan just issued their warning that THEY are the top tag team in GWA!
Ranallo: They came out and interrupted what could have been a great match though and for that we apologise to the fans – but don't fret – because our main event is coming up next! Three of the best women wrestlers in the world right now are about to go at it for the most coveted prize they compete for – the GWA Womens Championship!
Graves: They are our main event and they will be GWA's first champions since they were all vacated. Who's going to make history next?!
Ranallo: The great Sara Del Rey has dominated the GWA Womens Division historically but now we have fresh blood in the mix and whoever wins tonight, it'll be their first reign as GWA Womens Champion!

Eden Stiles: Ladies and gentlemen, the following triple threat contest is our main event of the evening and is for the GWA Womens Championship! Introducing first, from San Jose, California, BAYLEEEY!!

Graves: Don't let the bright colours, happy music and hugs fool you! Bayley is a legit competitor and dangerous in that ring!

Stiles: And her opponent, from Boston, Massachusetts, she is THE BOSS, SASHAAAAA BANKS!!

Graves: Talking about legit, here comes none other than Sasha Banks! In my opinion, we're looking at the best wrestler in the world right there, Mauro!
Ranallo: Well, it's difficult to argue that, Corey, but if I had to, I'd say the next competitor has the best argument for that title.

Stiles: And finally, introducing their opponent, from Osaka, Japan, ASUKAA!!

Ranallo: I think you could even argue she's the best wrestler here, man or woman! Asuka has got to be the favourite here tonight!
Graves: I have to disagree, I can't see any further than The Boss!
Ranallo: But of course, we can't forget Bayley either! This match is literally unpredictable!

MAIN EVENT
GWA WOMENS CHAMPIONSHIP
BAYLEY VS SASHA BANKS VS ASUKA

-After the opening foray and everyone getting a couple of shots in, Asuka starts to dominate the match. She takes out Bayley with a suplex and then unleashes some slaps and strikes to Banks in quick succession; even getting a couple of kicks in there before The Boss rolls out of the ring.
-Bayley gets beat on for a little longer until she reverses a suplex from Asuka into one of her own. When Banks tries to return to the ring, she is baseball slid back into the barricade and Bayley continues her assault on Asuka with a lariat. Bayle continues the assault by sending Asuka into the corner and hitting three back elbows. Bayley tries to set up for the Bayley-to-Belly – but Banks comes back into the ring and hits Bayley with a steel chair!
-Bayley eats two more chair shots before Asuka jumps in and takes out Banks, the chair falling out of the ring. Asuka surprises Banks with the Spin Kick and pins – but Banks gets her foot on the rope before the three! Asuka continues her assault but a rake to the eyes allows Banks to take control again, who rolls up Asuka and uses the ropes for leverage – but Asuka still manages to kick out.
-Banks uses more heel tactics to dominate with Bayley still out from the chair shots. The next big moment comes when Asuka reverses and looks to gain an offensive move on Sasha but Sasha re-reverses and takes out Asuka with the Bankrupt neckbreaker. The cover is made and Sasha gets a 2.5 count before Asuka kicks out!
-Bayley gets back into the mix again and this time manages to take out Banks with the Bayley-to-Belly, taking Banks by surprise but despite that, only gets a two count. After seeing Bayley German Suplex both Banks and Asuka and get another two close pinfalls, the three women are all laid out and the crowd chant for all three to try and will the match on.
-Asuka and Bayley are the first back up their feet: they go back and forth with blows, Asuka clearer hitting the harder shots, and Asuka sends Bayley to the ropes – but Bayley stops in her tracks, turns, and catches Asuka with a Bayley-to-belly out of nowhere! It looks like Bayley is going to get the winning pinfall – when Banks grabs Bayley and locks in the Bank Statement!! After such a long, gruelling match, and a particularly violent wrench of her neck by Banks, Bayley has no choice but to tap out and concede the match!!
WINNER AND NEW GWA WOMENS CHAMPION: SASHA BANKS VIA SUBMISSION @ 18:01

Sasha Banks rolls away to the ropes and uses them to get back to her feet while the referee grabs the belt and hands it to her. She takes it, raises her arms, tears in her eyes but not flowing.

Graves: I told you she would do it! Sasha Banks is an incredible wrestler and now she has the championship that makes her the best!
Ranallo: It was a brutal match and all three women gave it all they had! Sasha Banks, however, went the extra mile and is the champion! And that caps our show tonight – thank you so very much for joining us, we'll be GWA Blaze, same time, same channel, next week! Battle Royal for the TV Championship! Tonight, Sasha has reached the top of the mountain! Good night!!

Sasha Banks celebrates on the top turnbuckle as Asuka walks around the outside of the ring, disappointed, while Bayley is still lying in the middle of the ring. The logo pops up and the show fades out.

Quick Results:
GWA World Title Tournament R1: Rhyno def Ryback
GWA World Title Tournament R1: Ambrose def Owens
American Alpha vs American Wolves ended in a No Contest
GWA Womens Championship: Sasha Banks def Bayley & Asuka (new champion)

Mid Card

Cool start with the women closing the show. Several cherries popped with the matches here, original for sure! It'd be cool to see a best of whatever series betemween the two tag teams eventually. You captured the essence of Corey Graves well...really enjoyed that Rhys.

I'm working on my show still, kinda having creative differences with......myself 😊

The Blue Print

For a second I though Owens and Triple H were going to have a match! Maybe down the road somewhere? At WrestleWars? Daniel Bryan is the perfect choice for GM, so much history in GWA. It must have been hard to decide who you wanted to win between Ambrose and Owens, I know i'd be torn. I love them both. But maybe Owens will do something with Trips later down the road, time will tell! I hope Ambrose goes all the way!

I was surprised to see Ryback lose, but Rhyno is no push over. I never like to see Ryback win at anything 😋 This tournament will need a good old GWA vet in it.

Im not too familiar with American Alpha, but I am a huge fan of the Wolves. So screw those Wyatts for interrupting the match! Hopefully you have Bray around so it doesn't seem so weird to have the other two around randomly!

I agree with Fish it is cool to have the womens match cap off the show and Sasha is a good choice for a first champion. I feel like the women will be highlighted alot in shows to come!

I think the thing that really grabbed me on this show was the Owens and Triple H brawl, I really liked that. I really like the thought of them maybe having a feud in the future. But who knows what the future holds. It feels good to be getting back into the GM Game again.
