Almost God like? Maybe...

I'm gonna guess that most people here watch this show, so I'm starting a thread on it.

I'm liking it, but find myself getting lost in the story lines as I find some interesting and some really boring, which switches me off from some of the good scenes.

Also, the end of the 2nd series made it seem like the White Walkers would be a major part of the 3rd series, and yet I haven't seen them at all.  I enjoy being kept waiting and I enjoy suspense, but I think this has been a bit of a piss take.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

They have split the third book into seasons 3 and 4, so it will take a little bit longer to get to the good bits I guess, where as the previous seasons condensed each book into 10 episodes, the third book will get 20 episodes...

I watched the first episode and I'm not yet compelled to watch the second. Nothing's grabbing me.

I love this show so much I started reading the books, I finished the first one and I'm on to the second. I'm not even much of a reader but this is my shit.

This is one show where the good guys always lose, it's kind of depressing.

I started reading the books as well, unfortunately I just never seem to have time to finish a book nowadays, I think its because I use my kindle and not have an actual book.. maybe I need to go buy the physical books and I can get through more than half of it...

Interestingly, though was something that I read from Rolling Stone that the producer of the show had said...

HBO's Game of Thrones already has an end date in mind, even if George R.R. Martin hasn't written it yet. Series producer Frank Doelger said, "...we'll probably go through seven seasons." That would match the number of books in the series, but keep in mind that book three, A Storm of Swords, is being stretched into two seasons, meaning two books would have to be crammed into one season. Also, it's only Season 3 so it's way too early to be talking about this. In fact, I think we should all ignore his comment completely

Not sure how they could cram 2 books into 1 season though, So I would definatly hope this would change

I enjoy GoT, but do find the number of threads it has annoying, and quite boring.  Can't help but think it should be streamlined and progressed quicker.  Just seems like a lot of walking around at the minute, and after 2 seasons we should be past that...  The Lord of the Rings moved quicker than this!

Who watched the newest episode? OMG I don't think I've ever hated fictional characters as much as Frey and Bolton. My god was that episode intense or what, I think the show has blown it's load and has hit it's climax but what a climax it has been.

I read a lot of reviews saying that after the 3rd book the rest of the series starts going downhill, so it looks like we have this season and next before the show starts falling off.

I was sat there with my mouth wide open for the whole of the ending. Couldn't believe it. Was a real surprise, and not one that I like either. Great episode though, just wish it all happened to other people.

I liked the episode, and was pleasantly surprised that the series produces have been reading my comments and have culled some of the cast.  As long as they leave the blonde dragon girl alone I'll be happy!

Need Jon Snow to become more interesting still (was better this episode) and they need to kill of the kid with the broken back (I'm terrible with names...)  Want more from the torturer as well, he hasn't been in either of the last 2 episodes.

Definitely a better direction.

I think the most shocking part for me was when they killed the Dire Wolf... That wasn't nice...

I was hoping for a little more blood shed in the slaughter than we got really, I had seen a lot of you tube videos etc of people recording their partners (people who had read the books etc) and seeing their reaction and I did expect more...

The story is starting to pick up a little though, but I cant help but wonder what the series would have been like if they have given the 4rd book just 1 season instead of 2, as this would have had to have happened in the 3rd or 4th episode if that was the case, which would definatly have sped the series along a bit.

Still one of my favourite shows though

I think it's because the 9th episode of the season is always the climax. If you look back it season 1 was Ned dying and season 2 was the Battle of Blackwater so they needed something huge to end the first part on. I think the 9th episode of the next season is going to be the other big part of he 3rd book.

So now that his story has ended. What would you have done differently if you were Robb?

I would have aligned with Renly early just so I have more support (once I was back in the North I would declare myself King in The North). I wouldn't of married that girl no matter how much I loved her (you can sort of justify what Frey did), I guess I'd have to listen to Catelyn about Theon Greyjoy, but I'd still send her to go stay with her sister. I'd use Theon as a hostage against his father if attacked the North. It''s easy saying this now that it has happened but him and his mother have made so many mistakes it's madness this didn't happen sooner.

I was just reading your post and it got me thinking about the beginning of the first book, where Ned Stark is telling a young Bran about the reason that it was he who had to swing the sword that killed the Nights Watch deserter, because a man who passes the judgement must swing the sword as This is the old way of doing things and the blood of the first men still runs through Stark veins

This showed the respect and honor that Ned Stark had in this few paragraphs at the start of the first book, and I think if Robb had stuck with the same honor etc that his father did, then he wouldn't have married his wife, he would have gone through with the marriage and the North would have been united and strong...

I think that shows the difference between a young Robb and an honourable Ned who still believed in following the Old ways etc

I think what was trying to be put over is that Robb wasn't ready to lead a war and was a brave rookie going against vets. Also, to paraphrase Cersei, in the Game of Thrones you win or you die.

Well Season 3 of Game of Thrones has come to an end..

I know Game of Thrones never likes to end its seasons with a huge bang, instead they usually end the season with something to keep the fans biting at the bit ready for the next season...

Instead, I know that GoT often has all the action of each season in the penultimate episode:

Episode 9 of the first season was where Ned Stark lost his head as Arya ran towards Ned with her sword drawn but Yoren held her back in the crowd... Then episode 10 of the first season ended with Dany stepping out of the flames She is naked and her skin is coated in ash and grime, but she isn't burned. Jorah then discovers that Dany is not alone. She is flanked by three tiny baby dragons...

Episode 9 of the second season had the big battle of blackwater with Stannis Barathean attacks and Kings Landing is saved by Tywin Lannister just before Cersei poisons her younger son to save him from dying at the hands of Stannis...  Then Episode 10 ended with the horn being blown three times signalling the army of White Walkers, before Sam runs and then trips, falling before staring at a White Walker

Episode 9 of the third season is the Red Wedding and Episode 10, it tries to tie up some story lines, with Stannis hand betraying him, letting Roberts son free, having Jon Snow run away from his woman as she fires arrows at him arriving back at Castle Black where Sam had also returned and was told to send out 44 Ravens, after an interesting speech about 500 miles of Ice 700 feet high...  Lots of little things getting tied up within a lot of storylines,  including the Kingslayer returning home to his lover.. I mean sister, Cersei... The White Walkers are ending this season where they seemed to end the last, with warnings of them marching South. But seeing Dany almost crowd surfing over the peasents doesn't quite have the same effect that seeing her with Baby Dragons or seeing a White Walker does....

Either way, Im still looking forward to the next season and as season finale's go, it gave us enough answers to be satisfied on some storylines, but created a few more questions at the same time to make us want to see more..

Bring on April 2014

I'm enjoying it a lot tbh.  Loving the torturer...  The actor has developed a lot since Misfits...  I like the come down series finishes, it tempers my need to see it.

I was disappointed with the lack of white walkers this series tho.  The end of S2 seemed to set up a lot of action with the walkers (just like the opening scene of the S1 did), but they hardly ever materialised.  They have to be heavily shown next series because I've had 3 years of teasers now!!

This is one of my favorite shows off all time. I absolutely love it.

Anyone not watching should. It's slow at first and they throw alot at you, but just stick with it, sooooo worth it. Glad to see so many fans

LOVE GoT.

If you read the books, the TV show almost TOTALLY messes them up (things are out of order, random never-mentioned in the book characters are prominant, they breeze past important stuff & they dilly dally of trivial stuff) but still, it's sooooo good.

RR told HBO the proposed end of the series (cuz he's not a healthy-looking man) in case something happens to him b4 it is all over.

Best show on TV right now.

Just caught up with all things GoT. I love the series.

The Red Wedding was definitely the most shocking part up until now. I was stunned when Talisa got stabbed in the stomach and then Robb and Catelyn dying just left me in utter shock.

Season 4 has been interesting thus far. Joffreys death wasn't as shocking as Robbs but I love how you never know what they are going to do in Game of Thrones.

Tyrion, Arya and Daenerys are grabbing my attention the most. But honestly I love all the plot lines and actually don't mind the slow pace as long as the payoff is good which so far it has been.

Right, watched it all over the last couple of months and I still don't get it. Everyone loves it, I don't know why. It's not bad at all, the scripting, casting and acting are all excellent, but why would anyone care about any of these people? Tyrion is a dwarf so he's endearing, great, so is Hornswoggle. I enjoy his dialogue but seriously, if he was two feet taller no one would give a shit. I used to feel a little bit of sympathy for Sansa, but after three years she's crossed the line into whiny emo bitch. Just about everyone with any power is an asshole, I'm not sure who I'm supposed to get behind outside of Daenerys, and even she doesn't seem to be interested in overthrowing anyone anymore. She's going to rule the other half of the world instead. For now, anyway.

Ned being killed off so early was a shocker, the King too, I like the idea of never quite being sure of who will stick around and who won't. I have the same problem with this as I did with The Wire though, I have no idea who anyone is and as soon as I do start to quite like someone, they get got. And now things have played out a little bit, I know who the important players are so I know they won't be dying any time soon. Jon Snow will be fine, Daenerys will be fine, Tyrion and Tywin will be fine...

The only character I actually like is Arya, and we're lucky to get one scene with her each week. It's as bad as season three of Lost, where all anyone wanted to see was John Locke's storylines and they focused way too heavily on Jack, Kate and Sawyer being locked up in the polar bear cages.

And what's the big deal with the red wedding? Maybe I had it spoiled a bit too much, but I couldn't care less that Robb and his mum died. And the only person it could affect is Sansa, and she was already so miserable for so long that it made no difference. I don't know why we're supposed to care about white walkers, we've seen them three times now, one where he looked at Sam and did nothing, one where Sam killed one, and one where they were given a baby. These guys are supposed to be a threat? Good CGI on the zombie horse though. And dragons? People were pissed that they kept teasing the dragons and not delivering? Psh.

In fact, that's the biggest issue I have about the show. I'd be fine with everything else if they were to tell me what I'm supposed to look forward to. Every show in history has some end game, some climax that we're supposed to anticipate. Lost had reveals about the island and the possible escape, Stargate had the war with the Goa'uld, even that disappointment Revolution had the possibility of turning the lights back on. What are we building towards in Game of Thrones? We know we're going to get three or four more years of this and for what, Daenerys burning King's Landing with her dragons? Maybe?

Again, I'm not as down on it as I sound, it's fine, but I'm not getting why it's the best show of all time.

I think the slow build is fine. Its based on the books so it must be leading somewhere. The last two books are currently being written.

Who to get behind? Besides Daenerys,  theres Arya, John Snow, Sam and Gilly, Bran and I guess Theon's sister to a certain extent.

Other minor characters like Marjerey seem to be good guys too and Jamie Lannaster is the closest thing they have to an anti hero. He'll look out for Sansa but still rape his sister lol.

I know none of them have significant power but maybe its leading to all these good guys gaining power slowly. Bran is also an important part of the show. Hes obviously got some kick ass Warg powers that'll be important to beating the White walkers.

The only character I genuinely dislike is Lysa. Her character has always come across as poorly written.

I think in the end we'll get some form of happy ending but like Ramsey Snow said and Im paraphrasing:

"If you expect a happy ending you clearly havent been paying attention. "

The show focuses on war and human nature. How even in a world of magic and dragons humams are still the most destructive.

Daenarys and Arya sure, but Jon Snow is boring, I have no interest in Sam and the girl and baby, Bran is fine but feels very disjointed from the main story, so does Daenarys, and when was the last time we saw Theon's sister? What's her name anyway? That's another problem, I don't know anyone's name. I know the Onion Knight, but who is the girl with the burned face? I'm not even totally sure what Tyrion's bodyguard's name is. Isn't he Bran or Bryn or something too? No idea who Lysa or Marjerey are.

I don't have a problem with the slow build, there's a lot going on so it'll take a long time to tell all the stories. I'm fine with that. I just wish we had some idea of what we're building to. Joffrey was a little shit and I wanted him to get got, but when he finally did it came out of nowhere. Should I just assume every mention of a wedding means something big will happen? If only we had someone, even in passing, say something about killing Joffrey or wanting him dead, then I'd have something to keep watching for. The shock factor is great, but not everything has to be a surprise.

In wrestling we know that the big stuff happens on PPV and we know that WrestleMania is like the season finale. We don't even have season finales here, the big things seem to happen on the penultimate episode instead. Game of Thrones feels more like week-to-week booking where the main events are booked in the opening segment, leaving nothing to anticipate for the next show.

Im still learning all the names too. Marjerey is the one who Joffrey married before he died and Lysa is Sansa's aunt.

I do agree with some of what you're saying. I just have faith that when its all said and done ill be satisfied with how the show went. We all know that episode 9 is usually the episode of the season you remember and the rest of the season tends to just build to that episode.

Theon's sister (cant remember her name) is back in the next episode.

The names of people are my biggest problem. They can mention the Starks and I know who they all are. Know who most of the Lannisters are. But from there, I know very few names of other people that are in it regularly. Can't think of any of the names from the guys hanging around Daenarys these days.

I love that anyone can die at any time though. It's great. I find in horror films that there's no suspense or anything like that as you know the main characters will be fine, so why should I be worried when someones in their house? But with GOT I know that anyone can die at any moment, no matter how important their character is - just like real life. You go into battle and it just so happens that the main character is one of the ones to survive every time? Bollocks. At some point they're going to get caught out. They have no fear of doing that in this show though and it makes it seem more realistic. If someone important get's into a fight I actually think "shit, this really could be it for him" which you don't get in other shows where you know they'll live. Makes me more engaged in things as I don't know the outcome beforehand.

Really? I don't get that. There are certain characters who still have a story going who can't die yet. Maybe one day Jon Snow will die, but not for a while. Without him, why would anyone care about the Watch? Sam's not dying, at least not until it can be an emotional scene that fires Jon up to do something. Arya isn't dying until she either kills or forgives Hound. Tyrion isn't dying. I'd be very surprised if the girl knight dies any time soon, she's only just set out on a journey to...somewhere. Daenerys isn't dying, her advisor might but I don't really see that either, without him we'd have no one to explain things.

Robb and his mum were supposed to be a surprise, and I guess they would have been if the "red wedding" hadn't been so widely spoiled, but looking back at it it made sense. What was he going to do? No way was he going to take King's Landing, we've already had three kings and two queens in four seasons. He had a decent story going, but he was expendable. My biggest issue with it is that the guy who ordered it (another name I don't know) got zero heat from it. Where's he been? And where are the Wildlings and the cannibal guys with scarred faces?
