As noted, Rey Mysterio is currently amidst a contract dispute with AAA, which is why he hasn’t appeared for the promotion at all this year. The situation is not only applicable to Mysterio, as AAA is said to be behind in payments which has frustrated numerous talents.
According to the Wrestling Observer, when Konnan talked about Mysterio’s situation on a recent podcast, and suggested Mysterio could return to WWE at some point this year, apparently that wasn’t just speculation on Konnan’s part.
The Observer is reporting that the issues Mysterio has with AAA could enable him to get out of his contract, which would mean he could get out of his Lucha Underground deal as well. If Mysterio does indeed return to WWE, it would likely have to be on a part-time basis, as Mysterio would be unable to work the full-time schedule that Alberto Del Rio currently works.
Additionally, there are those in WWE who feel Mysterio won’t last very long in AAA/Lucha Underground, and will likely end up back in WWE. Mysterio’s current issues with AAA are both financial and creative.

I don't know how healthy he's been since he's been away from the WWE. Hopefully he was able to heal up alot. When he was in the WWE he'd return, then get re injured almost like clock work.

Rey is a great talent - but his underdog schtick got old after five years of it in WWE. Bring him back as a heel vs face Kalisto and I might be interested.

Mysterio vs. Styles would be pretty great, would have been better ten or twelve years ago though. They are always looking for that hispanic star to fill that void that Mysterio left lol. I'm not sure if Del Rio is that guy. But I'd watch Del Rio any day over Mysterio (now days)...

Del Rio, I can't stand. I don't know why, but his promos annoy me. Every other Hispanic wrestler talking sounds fine, when he does it, he sounds so whiny and lazy, not even pronouncing some words properly. He's good in the ring, but he isn't anything spectacular. I know he got a lot of hype around him when he was wrestling in the Indies/Mexico, but I don't really know what all the fuss is about. He's always been good in the ring, average on the mic, nothing spectacular altogether.

So, no, I don't think Del Rio is that guy either. Maybe Kalisto, if they can build on what he has so far, but as it stands he's just a Mysterio clone. He needs some character traits to make him a little more unique.

Yeah, his promos make me want to go bash my head into the wall. Just love the dude in the ring. I think he's done wonders for Kalisto though.
