Due to medical reasons, effective immediately, I am announcing my retirement. Tonight on Raw, I'll have a chance to elaborate. #gratitude

So that's it. Such a shame we never got to see his main event push last very long. Feel for the guy, you can tell he loves wrestling more than anything.

Aw wow. Such a shame, but the guy has to look after his health. Figured it was coming from all the conflicting reports on his health, with some doctors clearing him and others not. If there's any doubt, especially with head injuries, you have to take the safest option - so good on him. It'll be tough, but will definitely be the best for him. And you know he'll be set for life by WWE anyway as they won't just stop paying him and they'll make sure he's looked after since he was under their watch when it happened.

You know he'll probably carry on his WWE career kind of the way Stone Cold has too, sporadic appearances that will pay nicely - and probably a WWE network show too - so that'll be good for him.

I was really hoping we could see Bryan vs Angle before he finished his career but obviously his health is more important. If Edge is anything to go by, they'll probably induct Bryan into the Hall of Fame next year.

Almost God like? Maybe...

Still think it's a work...

It won't be a work. They wouldn't have announced it before hand else... he wouldn't have done (if it was a work, WWE would have been hinting at it, not DB announcing it himself on Twitter)

Just wishful thinking, I think. I'd love for it to be a work, but it's not.

It just seems strange this is coming after he was denied his release... i'm wondering what he will say.

Definitely won't be a work. Triple H even put up a tweet about it and called him an A+ wrestler - which is out of character. Just need to accept that we won't see him wrestling again.

Seems to me something spooked him big time... he knew it was time to go now... who knows if someday we will see him again wrestle somewhere else some day.... but i think he should just let it go now.... he seems happy, he looks good. you can see his family life is important to him... Brie looks like a woman who without a doubt loves her man.

I guess that's it now.

always remember we have tons of classics to watch from before WWE.

Main Event

Sad to see D-Bry retire... From a fan point of view, you know that if he ever did come back, he would have been stuck in the mid card as WWE wouldnt risk investing in him again with always a cloud hanging over him.. And from a Brian Danielson fan, i wouldnt want to see him stuck in the mid card..
But not being able to see him wrestle again wont be good and knowing the indy talent that is coming into WWE now, we are going to miss out on some classic encounters that have happened outside of wwe behore but now wont happen in a wwe ring

They're doing what they've done with others before him as well - adding his time out injured onto the end of his contract, expending his no-compete elsewhere. I don't think he should go anywhere else though, just accept retirement while you're still healthy enough to live a good life. You don't want to be one Goldberg kick away from a stroke, or one more concussion away from irreparable brain damage and do a Benoit. Both might be extreme cases, but with brain injuries it's what needs to be considered. Fans can also then remember him on the top of his game, and not a more careful version or one of the extreme versions mentioned. Good way to go out, and the best way. I'm sure WWE will look out for him - there'd been reports previously that they were offering him jobs backstage.

Loved that the crowd gave him a good send off, even if it was funny seeing some people who looked like he'd just slaughtered a puppy.

The Blue Print

Very sad to see this happen 🙁 I feel like a piece of wrestling dies every day sometimes. But I can't even remember the last time someone was as over as Daniel Bryan that wasnt John Cena. Sad that WWE wasnt able to capitalize on it earlier, before his injuries caught up to him. Will miss you American Dragon!
