Its a knock-on effect after he was suspended from powerlifting due to ridiculous amounts of testosterone in his system. The limit was 4-1 testosterone/epitestosterone ratio. Gunn had a 37-1 ratio. 9 times over the limit, what's he been doing, drinking bulls spunk?!

I thought you got a warning/suspension for failing the wellness policy and he's only a trainer so should he be tested anyway? That probably explains why he had a better physique than 90% of the roster when the Outlaws had their mini run last year.

Everyone should be tested, whether they're trainers or not. Someone backstage like Gunn dying of a drug overdose would do as much harm, if not more, than if an active wrestler was as it would show that it's not just limited to wrestlers - even if he is a former wrestler. That's one hell of a ratio though, 37-1 instead of 4-1... he's been hitting testosterone hard! Probably been fired for how much over he was, and that as a trainer he's meant to be setting an example.

Didn't know he was doing powerlifting though.

Well, it turns out I was right on the reasoning, but not on trainer testing. Only test active wrestlers, but had to release him as he's meant to be setting an example, not making the development system look bad.

As noted, Billy Gunn was fired from his job as a trainer at the WWE Performance Center over the weekend after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs at a power-lifting competition back in July. WWE was unaware of Gunn's suspension or the fact that he was active in power-lifting competitions.

Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that it's believed WWE only tests contracted talent, not the WWE coaches or staff at the WWE Performance Center. This is likely why there was never a negative WWE Wellness test for Gunn.

WWE officials were forced to release Gunn when they became aware of the situation, as they felt they couldn't have one of their trainers testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs without it making their entire developmental program look bad.

No official decision has been made regarding Gunn's replacement, however WWE is reportedly considering two people for the job.
