Connor Michalek, a Pittsburgh native and passionate WWE fan who passed away last year from cancer, will be the first-ever recipient of the Warrior Award, which will be presented each year at the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The Warrior Award will be given to someone who has exhibited unwavering
strength and perseverance, and who lives life with the courage and
compassion that embodies the indomitable spirit of WWE Hall of Famer,
The Ultimate Warrior. This year, the award will be presented by The
Ultimate Warrior’s widow, Dana Warrior, and WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan
to Steve Michalek, Connor’s father.

With the love of his family and WWE Superstars, as well as the tremendous care by Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, Connor battled cancer like a true warrior for as long as he could, and his charisma made him a local celebrity in Pittsburgh. Connor’s spirit inspired WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon and WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events & Creative, Paul “Triple H” Levesque to launch “Connor’s Cure,” a fund dedicated to furthering Pediatric cancer research.  Donations can be made by visiting www.givetochildrens.org/CONNORSCURE.

“On behalf of my family, we are truly humbled and honored that WWE will present an award in my husband’s name each year at the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,” said Dana Warrior. “Connor displayed all of the positive traits that Warrior stood for, and he is the perfect recipient for this inaugural
award. I am sure that Warrior is smiling today, knowing that this award
is being given to a true warrior.”
“My family is forever grateful for the gift that WWE, its Superstars, Divas and executives gave to Connor,” said Steve Michalek. “They made him smile and encouraged him tocontinue fighting. His visits backstage, and his time in the ring with Daniel Bryan, brought Connor true joy and undoubtedly extended his life,
giving us more time with him. Now, with this award and Connor’s Cure,
Connor’s legacy will live on.”
"Connor Michalek had a profound impact on so many people,” said McMahon. "His spirit and love of life were so strong, you would have never known he was sick.  I can think of no better way to honor Connor, than by recognizing him with our highest honor, the first fan to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, as a
Warrior.”

I think this is a really classy move from WWE. I remember Connor's story and it was great that he got to go to see WrestleMania and meet his favourite wrestlers before he passed away at the age of (I think) 5.

And with all that happened last year, Warrior returning, making up with everyone, giving that haunting speech and then passing away - this award just seems like a great homage to him while also honoring fans like Connor.

Imagine if you were Connor's parent - you know that your son will never be forgotten - but will actually be honoured and go down in WWE history. Maybe it's just because I'm a parent myself but I approve of this and I'm sure it'll be a great moment his family will never forget.

Why does Connor deserve it more than any of the hundreds of other kids who WWE has met? He's been the face of the Make A Wish alliance for a couple of years now, but I'm not really sure why.

WWE's charity work always feels seedy to me anyway, but this one is even worse than usual. It's a nice thing to do, but it's not for the right reasons. I mean, did Connor's family need more from WWE? No, WWE needed more from Connor's family.

Not to mention, this wasn't even close to what Warrior was talking about last year. He specifically said it should be called the Jimmy Miranda award and it should be for the backstage crew to get some appreciation. Now they're taking that and turning it into another one of their self-gratification wankfests.

Connor's story is sad and it's nice that they were able to give him a few nice days, but what is this really about? Showing us moving footage with sad music and Steph crying doesn't help anyone, it doesn't even raise awareness of Make A Wish. This is like me spending hundreds of thousands of pounds to advertise the time I donated £500 to the Red Cross. Charity isn't charity if you benefit from it.

My assumption is it's a way to put his charity in the spotlight. Think it's called Connor's Cure. It's true, there are hundreds of Make-A-Wish kids, but they don't all have a charity to promote, and honestly, this Connor is the only Make-A-Wish kid I actually remembered.

I mean, it's gonna take ten minutes out of the show, gives his charity some exposure, will no doubt get a bunch of donations too. It's not hurting anyone. I doubt any of the HOF inductees will lose time on their speeches because of this segment.

Can't stand sappy shit like this. I know that sounds awful, but I can't stand seeing things like this. Sad music, people crying... not my kind of thing. I don't watch children in need or anything like that. Just don't like it, it's all just a ploy to play on peoples emotions and unfortunately I have no emotions when it comes to things like this.  It's all just a ploy for something and I don't like that someone get's singled out when there are loads of other people that need more attention brought to them than that... and that's with me not even caring about things like this.

Anyway, I don't watch wrestling to see stuff like this. So he was a fan of wrestling... why's that mean that I have to sit through crap with people crying and all that.

Worst parts are when someone cries about people dying that they don't even know. Don't get why people would get upset over someone that they don't even know.

That all probably sounds really harsh though, so I'll stop there. But yeah, I'm sure it's a nice thing for the people that knew this kid and they will appreciate it for the rest of their lives, I'm sure.

I'm with you. I was just as disinterested and impatient with Wiz Khalifa. No one in the audience cared about that guy and that was his own hometown. Plus it's impossible to take something like this at face value, especially in WWE. These guys are professional workers, they don't do anything unless it benefits them somehow.

If this is all to selflessly promote Connor's Cure, they're doing a bad job. Look at what they do when they really want to promote a charity. Komen gets a logo on the ramp, pink ropes and everyone has a redesigned pink t-shirt. Did they actually mention Connor's Cure in that video package? It's not the usual WWE sledgehammer way of doing things.
