That was a corker of a match. I liked how Suzuki was using finger locks on Styles when he did the Bullet Club sign and those are banned in MMA as well as wrestling. Suzuki vs. Okada was another match I enjoyed from a couple of days later in the G1. Anything involving the main guys and Honma, Ishii, Goto & Naito was worth watching. Shibata is growing on me, because he's starting to evolve from just holds and kicks to weaving in some wrestling moves to his repertoire.

So the G1 Climax tournament came and went a few weeks back, and it was pretty great. I'm not all that into strong style, but there was a lot to appreciate. Here's a sample match to break you in to New Japan, in case you don't already watch it. Everyone should be familiar with AJ Styles, but in case you didn't watch his late heel work in TNA he added a submission finisher called the calf killer. Other than that, same old AJ. The other dude is Minoru Suzuki, and he's the most badass guy that ever existed. He did a lot of MMA in Pancrase, so his wrestling gimmick is that he's a tough guy old man shooter who doesn't play along with the pro wrestling bullshit. A little bit like Brock Lesnar, just ten years older. His finishers are a Gotch piledriver, think Cesaro's neutraliser, and the dreaded sleeper hold.
AJ came to New Japan a few months ago and quickly won the IWGP title. He aligned himself with a heel faction called the Bullet Club, who are basically the nWo. They're mostly Americans.
