I got a lot of exams the next few weeks, I'm gonna get this game ASAP when I'm done. I'm not that excited for it though, the general feel is that it's like the tanker stage in MGS 2, where it's really just a little prologue for the real story.

I only played around with it for an hour wasn't really playing... just messing around, however you'll probably beat it in 90 mins or so... i'm pretty sure once i know where everything is i can beat it in 15 mins... someone already did it in 10.
it's fun but i think i'd rather have just got the whole package of MGS 5 and not a $20-30 dollar demo....also plays very similar to the most recent Splinter Cell game too.
Wow... Phantom Pain is incredible! i'm almost taken back because i felt 4 and PW were so so... this is bringing in hype for me that i haven't really had since MGS3 was released in 2004.
Won't spoil nothing... but if you are MGS fan you must play this shit.
Awesome. It's on my wishlist for when I get a PS4.

You gotta get a ps4 already bro. it's been like 2 years i've heard that. haha i'm teasing dude i know those things aren't cheap.
Have you played Peacewalker? it's like that but like super version of it.... my biggest complaint is almost no story..
No amazing cut scenes so far.. and all are very short when they happen.... i'm almost unsure what is going on in the game because the story is so sparse.
I know that in older MGS games especially 4, the cutscenes went on for too long.... i thought they would tone them down and not nearly eliminate them all together.
Other than that though.. i still think this game is epic and it does give me real hype that i haven't quite felt since 3.
I liked 4 but it didn't get me excited like the older games or even this one.... infact i was going to wait to buy this game until like Xmas time... but i watched a few trailers and decided right there i must play it.... still probably have a week to go or so until i beat it... i'll post more spoiler free thoughts around then.
I know, I know! I'm desperate to get one but it's just not on the cards atm. I do have a couple projects and other things underway which might bring in some more money soon though, so who knows, I might have a PS4 sooner than I think. I'll let you know if I do haha.
No, haven't played Peacewalker... just the main games... so MGS, Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, Guns of the Patriots.
I'm not sure what to think of the lack of story. I mean, GotP might have had cutscenes that were too long - but I've always loved the MGS cutscenes/cinematics (and GotP had some great ones)... so that's kind of disappointing.

I would do a read up on Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes... before you play Phantom Pain, i don't feel that you entirely need to because i never finished up peace walker.... so i learned a bit more playing Ground zeroes and went back and read the story of PW... but even without that.. they put in flashback cutscenes and go over the past with dialog tapes.
Doesn't seem like any MGS will live up to 1-3... with the deep story lines and amazing on the edge of your seat cut scene, this game does have a few of them... but not anywhere near what we have become use to the past 20 years.
I will not knock the gameplay.... it's amazing, i just have a few design complaints (lack of quick travel on the giant maps.
and at this point in the game the plot is getting deep so i expect some major surprises to come.
I found it kind of funny that closer to the end of the game the cutscenes pick up a lot more and the story becomes more detailed later on with the tape recordings.
this game is so addicting.... i even have gone and replayed missions and had fun doing so.
So there are after the game missions which means its not really the end even though credits roll some things are solved... but then the game begins chapter 2 with more main missions and main quest side ops.
also wouldn't be shocked if they released a dlc package adding in another chapter...from what i understand stuff was removed that would point at a final chapter with a few missions missing... i don't know if they were finished and cut or just never finished at all.
Pretty sure i've finished this game entirely, no online stuff though i'm not into it.
This was a really addicting game... like crack you just can't stop playing it once you get into a groove for it
The story is still the games weakest feature but honestly it made a ton of sense and during the replay i noticed little things, references and just plot points on tapes or in cutscenes or codec that i over looked entirely. they have so many ways of getting through a mission... there is one mission that was insane and brutal and i wound up finding a trick to finish the mission in less then 2 minutes... it was exciting to know it worked.
i'm gonna give it a 10/10 in terms of gameplay and content alone.
Gotta play this game if you haven't
Hey guess who finally got a PS4?
...
My brother - but hey, at least I can use it! 😄
He also picked up Ground Zeroes which I played for less than half hour and am still getting used to the gameplay but yeah, hopefully, I will be all caught up with MGS sooner rather than later.

That's great news and GZ is a perfect way to start it out... it really gets you ready for things to come in Phantom Pain. and you can get a pretty good amount of gameplay out of GZ.
plus so many other great games out now and yet to come.
Ok so GZ came out today in america i guess it's not out for a couple more days in Europe i decided to just buy the digital download version and save $10, money is tight....
I'll post my thoughts on this after i have played it.. so later today considering it's a very short demo like game... can't wait i hope it's good.
