Before the season i got 5/1 odds that Di Canio would be the first Premier League sacking... not great odds but better than nothing.

DiMatteo is the bookies odds on favorite to replace him.

I remember reading about some of the things he banned his players from having and it included ice in drinks (as he knew of a pkayer who had ice cubes in his coca cola the night before a game abd they couldnt play because of indigestion) and also banned was ketchup.

Any kosher food, that was banned as well.

They sacked him too early really they could of at least waited til they lost against Liverpool & Man Utd. His side had no time to gel, even though he did get some crap in the transfer window. The Korean who flopped at Swansea & fucking Borini who can't score if his life depended on it. The Juve winger was supposed to be this amazing player, but if he was that good why did they let him leave. He scored against Southampton but I haven't heard anything positive about him. Sunderland always look like one of those teams, that no matter who they buy or get to manage them, they always fuck it up. Like who's idea was it to get rid of Mignolet and replace him with a keeper from Coventry.

I don't think PDC was good enough or had the experience to manage a Premier League team. He got Swindon promoted but they were a league 1 team in league 2 with a good squad. He comes with too much baggage and this leadership style he's adopted from somewhere (Mussolini?) doesn't work in English football.

Almost God like? Maybe...

He was a dictator, but then so was Fergie.  And so was Cloughie.  I'm not comparing ability, just style.  Nothing to do with Mussolini to be fair to him.

The biggest problem he has was the players didn't want to put in the work.  It's the typical "big time charlie" syndrome.  PDC wanted his players fit (hence the food issues) because he know, on a quality level they couldn't compete with anyone in the top 15, so they had to compete on a physical level.  The players didn't want to do it.  AVB had a similar issue at Chelsea, he wanted them fitter and John Terry led a delegation of players to Roman and complained.  AVB has done a similar thing at Spurs, and now was compete for 90 minutes.  Same thing for most of last season because he has a squad open to new ideas.

What PDC did wrong was to did out the players in public too often.  He needed them on side, so he should have gone for the Jose way and done the whole "world is against us" thing.

But, he's no loss to the premier league tho.

As for Di Matteo taking over, the guy is a joke and will get them relegated. Seriously doesn't have a clue, and it's unfathomable that a coach as poor as him has an fa cup winners medal and a Champions League winners medal as a manager.  Its almost as bad as Avram having a runners up medal.  Hopefully no chairmen take medals won at chelsea seriously.

I don't know who the answer is to pull them out.  I heard Paul Ince's name being mentioned, but he's pretty dreadful.  They'll probably go abroad and bring in an unknown.

That was joke. He didn't ban any Jewish foodstuffs either. He does wear nice suits though, Hugo Boss I would imagine.

Di Matteo doesn't sound like he's interested in the job. Poyet has just had his odds slashed to get the gig, according to the Sunderland Echo. Fits into the mould of the young & trendy manager who's interested in the possession, passing game. Like AVB, Laudrup, Pochettino......Allardyce.

I know it was meant as a joke, was just highlighting his similarities to fergie and clough.

Poyet looks a reasonable option, but I don't think he'll do any better that PDC to be fair.  Sunderland down in 20th and someone will pick up Andrew Johnson and Steven Fletcher for a bargain in the next 12 months.

Gus Poyet: Sunderland set to name Uruguayan as manager

Sunderland are set to appoint former Brighton boss Gus Poyet as their new manager within the next 24 hours.
The Black Cats, who lie bottom of the Premier League table, sacked Paolo Di Canio on 22 September after only 13 games and six months in charge.
Uruguayan Poyet is understood to have held talks with Sunderland owner Ellis Short and is close to signing a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light.
