Shearer easily. Greatest goal scorer in the league and he'll never be beaten - made even better by the fact that he missed most of a season through an ankle ligament injury one time. He could score any kind of goal - amazing volly's from 30 yards, tap ins, free kicks, both feet and head. He had an exceptional shot on him that could almost break the back of the net. He could hold the ball up well as he had great strength, or he would be the striker whilst someone else held the ball up, or he'd do both roles in a game. He scored over 30 league goals in a season 3 times in a row when with Blackburn.
And to make him better, he's English.
Arsenal did well before Henry. They've continued to do well since Henry. Newcastle have struggled since Shearer. That says a lot to me. I know Arsenal haven't had a striker that's done as well, but as a team they've spread the goals out and continued to finish the season in good positions. Newcastle went downhill when Shearer retired. The guy was proper irreplaceable.
Henry would easily be my second best striker though in the Premier League. If he'd stayed at Arsenal he'd the only player who could have come close to beating him.
To be honest Shearer was a bit before my time but I saw glimpses of him in his latter years and I know the legend he is. I don't think him being English should have any bearing on judging him though.
But Henry is something else. He was the best striker in the world, granted he had a brilliant team around him but when he had the ball you always knew he was going to do something special. Whether it's that goal against United at Highbury or running through the whole Real Madrid team at the Bernabau. No player got me as excited as he did.
While researching this I saw that Lampard is 10 goals off from matching Henry in the all time list. That looks like it's possible, I can see Lampard getting 10 pl goals even if he starts from the bench. It's kind of sad though, it's only because he's been in the league so long, he deserves it but he's not a legend like Henry.
I also think Drogba, RVP and maybe even Anelka are up there too.

Alan Shearer is without doubt the best Premiership Striker of all time. He was just class.
And I think Robin van Persie is up there too... the first goal he scored against Swansea yesterday was great. And he does that sort of thing time and time again.
And Thierry Henry was a fantastic strilker, no doubt. And I'd put him in second of all Premier League strikers, but he wasn't better than Shearer in my opinion.

1 - Alan Shearer - 260
2 - Andy Cole - 187
3 - Thierry Henry - 175
4 - Frank Lampard - 165
5 - Robbie Fowler - 162
6 - Wayne Rooney - 156
7 - Michael Owen - 150
8 - Les Ferdinand - 149
9 - Teddy Sheringham - 147
10 - Jimmy Floyd Hasslebank - 129

For longevity, shearer was fantastic. He has scored more than anyone, but i dont think thats the whole point. What about those strikers that were only here a short time? For example, what if soldado scores 50 league goals this year and wina the title for spurs, then 50 next year winning the league and champs league double and then goes back to spain? What if he was voted world player of the year two seasons running, and was acknologed as the worlds best striker for those 2 years.
He wouldnt be on the top 10 scorers list, he wouldnt have longevity, but would there be an arguement to say he was the best ever in the premier league?
Shearer never worried me when he played. Sure he was top quality, but i never saw him as able to damage a season. Henry was a beast. Id put drogba in 3rd for the same reasons henry is 1st (shearer 2nd)
Gotta love a spurs fan trying to turn every discussion into about them winning something hahahaha

You could replace soldado with bony or suarez or whoever. The point was it would be someobe only here for a short time.
If you were to go on impact alone, then Surely Cantona has to be up there, he had less than 200 total premier league matches and scored just 58 goals, yet the impact he had on the premiership as a whole, as well as Manchester United means he is forever associated with the Red Devils and was one of the first commercial products of the Premier League itself helping transcend the boundries into what it is today.
Henry is probably the most deadliest striker the Premier League has ever seen though
What about Van Nistlerooy? he has 5 years in the Premier League, scoring 95 goals in 150 games and never failed to score les than 20 goals in a season

95 goals in 10 games is pretty good...
in 150 games (damn stupid 5 key lol haha)

Thos can be a proper discussion, rather than just shearer scored the most, so he's the best.
Thats like saying bosingwa is one of the worlds best right backs and milan baros is obe of the worlds best because they have won the champions league.
Van nistlerooy is a gd shout. Fantastic finisher. I dont think he had the all round game of rvp tho, so wouldnt include him.
I mentioned cantona in my original post, and he is a great, no doubt. I think he was a right place, right time player tho. If he had signed for spurs he'd just be another foreigner. Whereas if henry had sigbed for spurs i think he would have got goals and made a difference.
van Nistelrooy is definitely in for a shout at the top 10. He was great while he was with United.

One word... Drogba.
If you want more than one word, here goes. Shearer might have longevity but that longevity hinders his case for me. Most of his goals were scored during a period where the Premier League was home to an awful standard of football (92-98), Drogba terrorised some of the best defenses in the world during his stay in the Premier League.
Second is Henry. When I first started watching the Premier League on a consistent basis (around 2000), Henry blew me away with his play similar to Kluivert at Ajax, Ronaldo at PSV and Barcelona, Baggio at Juventus, Bologna, Milan and Brescia and so on. Drogba might be the best to grace the PL but Henry is my favourite. Plus he's a top guy too. The only reason he's not the best is because he played for Arsenal.
So, we were talking in a thread and Benji said Shearer was the best ever. H Sticks said it was Henry. I think Pavylechenko was better than both... (jokes btw)
So who was it?
Shearer?
Henry?
Cole?
Sheringham?
Someone else?
I always rated Shearer, but, as a Spurs fan I never feared him. Henry on the other hand... I hated him.
So I'd say Henry was the best striker to grace the premier thus far (that was quite painful...)
