I haven't had chance to see it yet either, I was waiting for the initial hype to go down about it before I went to see it, because a good friend who is a big movie buff went to see it and he knows I like my superman mythology and comic etc and I asked him if I would get annoyed by it and he said I probably would with bit of it... So that made me decide to wait until the initial hype around it had died down before going to see it...
It became a "Ill watch before it leaves the cinema" instead of "Oh My God, lets go now"

Seen it three times 😄
It's awesome. I'm a massive Superman fan and it's great. There's a few little nods to other characters as well which is cool.
Zod is class, Shannon plays him brilliantly. Great actor. And Crowe was excellent as Jor-El.
Not so much a spoiler as I don't ruin anything, but I'll hide it anyway.
People also complained about his suit being too dark. When he's in the sun though it's a nice blue colour like it should be.
What I loved most though (not really a spoiler as I don't ruin anything):
I was never a Superman guy, but this movie was awesome

I had trouble with this movie. I'm an old school Golden Age Silver Age Superman fan and to see him portrayed in the same brooding way as the latest set of Batman movies just didn't do it for me. I always.enjoy the brightness of a Superman comic but this just brought me down from begining to end, there.was no excitement to it at all. Sure the finishing moments were good but Christ! I want to kill Nolan for making this the standard for what DC movies are goibg to be, dark, brooding, and full of useless dialogue, with smacks in the face to fans at every turn.
I never understand this. Every Superman movie I've ever seen has been shit. I know some people consider the originals classics, but watching him fly around the Earth to reverse time (WTF?) and always go against Lex Luthor, who he could toss into the sun at any moment, yet he's this great supervillian, was just beyond retarded. And Superman Returns, which was more like the older Superman movies, was god awful.
I think Superman NEEDED this type of change. Finally, a formidable foe and the storyline between Krypton and how he grew up on earth was awesome. I can't give too much away without giving spoilers, but there's so many factors of this movie that were just great. It honestly seems like only the OGs of Superman who want to see him in a bright red thong have issues with this movie.
To say this movie had no excitement at all is ludicrous. I never liked Superman. He's like my little cousin who is like 10 years younger and when we wrestle and he pretends to be his own Super Hero, he has every superpower imaginable. He can fly, he can't die, he lives forever, he shoots laser beams from his eyes and lightning beams from his ass...aka Superman! Yet he gets such a weak villain. Finally, he gets a capable villain with ties to his past. This movie sets everything up for future movies where they can go any direction they want, with everything actually making sense. (Including his ridiculously bad disguise for his job) This movie was great.

Your arguement against Lex Luthor is why he is the perfect match for Superman. Sure he could throw him in the sun but that's not Superman. Lex is there to show that pure intellect can seemingly cripple even the strongest force on Earth! Anyone who says this is a great movie are clearly delusional. I hpnestly can not see, much like I did with the latest 3 Batmans, any good in this. I'm all for updating things and perhaps a few.tweaks to stories like Marvel has.done but my god these DC ones have basically taken their dicks out and smacked fans in the face with them.

You pretty much took the words out of my mouth. This is the only Superman film I've seen that isn't a load of monkey piss. I'm not really a comic book fan and if I was it would be Marvel, so how they portray Superman in the films compared to the comics doesn't mean two shits to me.
That being said it's a good comic movie, I wouldn't put it up there with the like of Avengers and Dark Knight. Let's say it's on the same level as one of the Spider-Man movies, but not as good as Iron Man.
I can understand where It's Me is coming from though. It's like me and the Dragonball Evolution, I can't bring myself to watch it because it would hurt my feelings to see Dragonabll butchered in such a way. I heard these Hollywood bastards are going after Death Note next.

Like I said, it really seems like the purist are the ones who take issue with the movie. I'd just much rather see Superman v General Zod or Doomsday then little Lex Luthor. I do think a decent can be made with Lex though, but everyone I've seen is just terrible.
I look at how this movie ended and then how the original ended (Lois dies, he reverses time by making the world spin backwards, again wtf, then he literally flies and picks up lex and drops him off I'm jail) makes me wanna cry, that's so lame.
I understand if certain people don't like this movie, that's your opinion and that's fine. But you just can't give me legit reason why this Superman movie isn't better then the others, there's just no way!

Benjawi pretty much summed up my opinion of Man of Steel. I loved it. Now I was actually a bit annoyed when this film was announced because I wanted a follow up film to Smallville rather than another reboot. I thought it'd be cool to let Tom Weller wear the cape properly for at least one film. But any thoughts of a Smallville follow up film were gone after seeing Krypton. Those scenes were stunning, and I too would happily watch a whole film set on that Krypton.
Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe were just awesome. And personally I loved seeing Kevin Costner! I haven't seen him in anything for such a long time, so it was nice knowing he's still around.
Let us know when you've seen it Snake and post your thoughts!!

Well I have been and watched it now, so i guess we are just waiting on Snake before we can include spoilers haha...
First thought though was i would definitely be happy of they had a kind of Superman Origins film where we got to see Krypton in its Prime as it was described in the film, seeing them spread across the galaxy colonising workds etc..
I agree that it was good to see Costner in their and think he played a good Jonathan Kent and the wsy it was done aswell with his timeline i think went well.. I can say the sane for Russell Crowe as Jor'El as i think he played a good part and was hapoy how they integrated him into different aspects of the story..
I cant say much more at the moment until everyone has seen it....

Nope still haven't seen it, but go ahead and spoil it i'll avoid this thread until then what i have seen here so far sounds about right it seems to be a love it or hate it film... i'm probably going to go see it sunday on my birthday or the next day.
I'm not the biggest Superman fan in the world or anything... but i liked superman 2 and i really like Zod as a character so i'm interested to see the new take on him.... i heard his side kick girl or whatever is almost more evil then he is. haha
man now i wanna come back to see if that last part is true... ah well
I haven't been able to go see it yet... has anyone seen it that likes the Superman Mythology? or just enjoy comic book based movies? how was Zod? was he as good as Zod in Superman 2?
Just want some thoughts on the movie... since i'm planning on seeing it soon.
