Not sure if anybody here has any sort of legal background but thought I would give it a shot.

I was given a "warning letter" at work. After I received the letter I was over heard by my boss speaking to a co-work about the letter. At which point I was told that the letter was marked "private and confidential" at the top and I was not allowed to speak to people about the letter.

I have done some googling and come Monday will be making a few calls on the matter. In the meantime does anybody here have any understanding if I can be sensored in such a way?

Depends. How corporate is your place of employment? I work for a pretty big financial company, and every 6 months we have to take these online confidentiality courses. If you do anything like that where you work, you basically agreed that they're allowed to fire you if you disclose confidential information. Be careful, they could very likely fire you and stay within the limits of the law over something dumb like that. (The "very likely" is referring to them having a reason that would hold up in court if you sued them, I'm not saying they're gonna fire you)

Been doing more looking up on how the whole situation has been handled and it seems my employer my be in the wrong on a few issues. I will know more tomorrow once I call Worksafe.

As for courses that you mentioned we have never had anything of the sort. We also have no HR department to speak of, which is while I am taking my issue direct to Worksafe.

Thanks you the help.

I'm not really getting why your boss would be allowed to talk about a private and confidential letter to a co-worker, esp one about you.

Renny's boss overheard Renny talking to a co-worker about the letter, not the other way around. So his boss told him that he wasn't allowed to discuss it with anyone else.

Yeah, that makes a whole lot more sense.  Esp when I reread it and see my error!
