Basically, they are doing tryouts right now for the tournament and there are already some strong prospects in:

Deonna Purrazzo (ROH regular)
Rachel Ellering (Paul Ellering's daughter)
Heidi Lovelace (Shine and Shimmer regular)
Kimber Lee (Shine, Shimmer, and CHIKARA regular...recent CHIKARA Grand Champion)
Nixon Newell (What Culture wrestler I believe, I don't know much about her)

Otherwise, some prospects in my mind are:

"Crazy" Mary Dobson (or whatever name she ends up using as she recently was signed)
Tessa Blanchard (Tully Blanchard's daughter)
Candice LeRae (Johnny Gargano's new wife and a spectacular wrestler in own regard)
Awesome Kong?
Taryn Terrell?
Bring back Beth Phoenix and/or Victoria?
Amber Gallows (formerly O'Neil, but now Luke Gallows' wife and a decent wrestler on her own)
Velvet Sky (simply because she is married to Bubba Ray Dudley now I believe...if not, they've been dating for several years at this point)

-------------------------------

Thoughts on what it could be?  Do you think it'll be a flop or a hit?  Or do you think it'll take a few years to catch on?  I think its a great time to do it as the women are now being regarded as equal Superstars nowadays.

Nixon Newell is a welsh wrestler, she wrestles in WCPW among other indie places. She's a fairly decent worker, it'd be cool to see her go on such a grand stage as WWE. I'm not sure if people will care about this since women are part of the show every week (unlike cruiserweights and the influx of british talent) but as long as they can get a good enough set of workers, I'm sure it'll be entertaining enough.

I'd like to see Phoenix return, but I'm not even sure if she's still active. I know she's had some kids but she could be active and I just didn't know. I'd also like to see Awesome Kong get a run in WWE (that first run doesn't really count).

EDIT: Yeah, Phoenix has retired - side note: I've never noticed before how much she looks like Natalya.

I miss Phoenix. She was great and oddly hot.

Glad they're doing something like this. The brand split has made the womens division look incredibly weak, so doing something like this is a good thing. Hopefully some get signed up to help strengthen the division overall.

Main Event

Nice. The womens division definitely needs bulking up on both brands so any womens tournament is only a good thing when it involves outside talent. Get some signed up and make the divisions look promising again like before the brand split. Shouldn't be hard, just sign something like six new women who are good enough, three for each brand and book them to be major threats to the title. Boom, womens division on both brands that fans can get behind. Hopefully the womens tournament goes the same way as the cruiserwight one did and a load get signed up.

The Blue Print

This will be fun to watch. The Cruiserweight tournament was really well done. Looks like they are gonna follow suit with a few like them now. Will be nice to see some women I've never seen before.

Finally some more news on this.

WWE are doing a women's Tournament. Hopefully will bring in a load of new wrestlers as the divisions on both Raw and Smackdown need vast improvements. At Backlash the whole division is in a match - all 6 of them! It's pitiful, so hopefully this will improve things vastly as there are some very talented women out there.

Also, it seems that JR will be on the commentary for it.

As seen this weekend, WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross handled the commentary for the WWE United Kingdom Championship special on the WWE Network.

"Good Ole' J.R." is also scheduled to take a seat at the announce table for the WWE U.K. Championship match between Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne at the NXT TakeOver: Chicago live special later this evening from Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.

During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, the legendary pro wrestling announcer also confirmed that he will be handling the commentary for the previously announced WWE Women's Tournament that is scheduled to kick off this summer.

Wrestler wise, rumours are that WWE are interested in former TNA Knockouts Jade and Marti Bella for the tournament.

There's nothing on who will actually be in it, apart from that it's meant to be women from all over the world like in the cruiserweight tournament that they did.
