Does James Ellsworth belong in WWE?

Do you like Ellsworth? Should be be part of WWE?

The guy came in as an unknown and has even main evented Smackdown with a win over the current WWE Champion AJ Styles. The man with no chin has been thrust upon WWE fans as the ultimate underdog and has even managed to sell a good amount of merchandise. The problem is though whether he deserves to be in the main event scene, as I've seen a few people questioning his position on a few sites.

His position? He might be part of the main event scene at the moment, but not as anything other than a part of the story and doesn't have a full-time contract. And it's not like he's not fighting for the title or anything (I know he did one time, but who didn't find that story funny?). Could his spot have gone to someone else? Absolutely. But would they have got the same reactions out of the crowd? Very doubtful. The guy is a 14 year veteran of the independent scene, mostly working in his local area and it highlights the good work that these guys do. Ellsworth can sell, seems comfortable on the mic, better facial expressions than most of the roster have shown previously and generally seems to know what he's doing (Styles Clash incident ignored for good reason and that Styles sorted it). But, he doesn't have a contract which isn't a great position for anyone - it's made him famous and will probably do him well in the future, but an actual contract would be better.

Personally think that he deserves one. Wouldn't have him in the main event after the Ambrose/Styles feud is over, but he could be a fun addition to a roster that is lacking (and more importantly, lacking wrestlers that can connect with the crowd). He's shown enough, even if it is as a glorified jobber. Take him out of Smackdowns leading storyline and see what he can do, even if it's just a years contract.

He is worthy of being a jobber, and even with those wins over Styles, he's still a jobber. When he gets a clean win over someone, I'll be worried.

Talk is that he's signing a contract with WWE imminently.

Ellsworth confirmed at an Indy show that he has signed a contract with WWE. Wonder what they'll do with him once this Ambrose and AJ feud is over. He's interesting, but not top level material really. Good on him for working hard and living his dream though.

He'll probably never be seen again for months

Smackdown made it official. Didn't like the way it was done though. He now has 3 wins over AJ Styles. Huge for Ellsworth, but not good for Styles, especially since he's been champion for all of them. Might not have been a single clean victory, but that's still 3 losses.

Assuming this whole Ambrose and Styles feud ends at TLC, that will surely take Ellsworth out of the main event scene since he's only there as he's been with Ambrose. So what happens next for him now that he officially has a contract?

He could join the tag division with a jobber to make a jobber team.

He could join the CW division (he won a WWE contract but not specifically SD right?)

or he could just be a glorified jobber put in comedy feuds.

I'd say that it is a Smackdown contract. Can't have him appear as a contracted Raw guy without them having any say so in it.

He's going to be the underdog that fans love to cheer for as he doesn't give up, I reckon. A jobber that will get TV time every week while guys like Crews are no where to be seen (seriously, what was the point in calling Crews up from NXT?).

I like what they have done with Ellsworth, I find it pretty fun. I think he'll stick around Dean for a bit. Someone predicted that he'll probably turn heel on Dean at some point.

They'll turn Ellsworth heel soon enough I reckon. Will likely cost Ambrose the title at TLC and have a little program with him going forward to free up AJ Styles to feud with someone else.

I like it. Heel Ellsworth would certainly add something to him, which he'll need going forward.

And welcome to 4w 🙂

Remember when they did this with Colin Delaney a long time ago? I think it was with Tommy Dreamer. Very similar storylines, then he turned heel on Dreamer. I think WWE has done this a few times over its history.

Called it. Although it wasn't a difficult call as it made sense going forward.

Jobber

Ellsworth did not turned heel. He turned delusional. I loved his reasoning for costing Ambrose the match. Unfortunately it will backfire on him. 😉

He's done well enough to get his own action figure.

It's been 9 months since he signed his contract and I still find him entertaining as hell. The guy has some charisma.

Hes fucking hilarious! Dude has made me laugh more in 9 months than Santino Marella made me laugh in his whole career.
