Sounds intriguing. That's some time away though.
All over the world? Will they bring in a bunch of wrestlers and change their names?

This sounds awesome. I can't wait to see who they bring in.

Well, that would be awesome. About time they gave cruiser weights the time of day....
4CW Hall of Fame Class of 2018. Triple Crown Champion 2020. 2 times Universal, 2 times Tag team and 1 Time World Heavyweight Champion.
Wrestler of the Year 2017, Champion of the Year 2017, Most Improved 2017
The current plan for WWE's "Global Cruiserweight Series" tournament is to film the entire tournament over five days during the tapings on the week of June 20th at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida.
Participants for the 32-man tournament will be decided in qualifying matches that will be held at EVOLVE, PROGRESS Wrestling and Revolution Pro events in April and beyond. Additionally, WWE will reveal talents via social media as a way to familiarize fans with performers who may not have previously worked in WWE.
The "Global Cruiserweight Series" is expected to have a ten-episode run on the WWE Network, and according to Triple H, he would like to see it become a new WWE annual tradition.
No word yet on who will be in it.
NXT competitors Rich Swann, Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano along with international standouts Zack Sabre Jr., Noam Dar, Ho Ho Lun and Akira Tozawa were announced for the Global Cruiserweight Series, which begins with qualifying matches in the coming weeks, then airs live on July 13 on WWE Network.
Quality line-up, no idea who Ho Ho Lun is though.

I'm genuinely looking forward to this when it happens. The only thing I don't like is that they're apparently recording the whole thing over 3 days. 3 days for a 32 man tournament. So, they're either going to be short matches, a few injuries and rushed finishes... or the report is wrong, which is what I'm hoping. Doesn't need to be recorded over an extended period, but 3 days is way too short to do something like this well.
so I can't figure out how to post it here from my phone but here are the first seven announced competitors for the tournament
Zack Sabre Jr
Rich Swann
Johnny Gargano
Tommasso Ciampa
Noam Dar
Akira Towaza
Hoho Lund
most of us are familiar with all but Lund....so he'll probably be winning haha!
Zack Sabre Jr and Jack Gallagher have both qualified for the GCS.
Jack Gallagher is like a Timothy Thatcher, Drew Gulak, Billy Robinson catch as catch can style wrestler.

damn, dudes got a big dick.
I'd love to see Drew Gulak in this. He's one of the last CZW guys I was super high on back in 09-2011 (Moxley; and Callihan already had his shot.). Ruckus is probably too fat to sell he's under 205, but I'd love to see him and BLK Jeez

Highlights from the Progress Qualifiers.

So they're filming this over just 4 days. At least there's a good gap between them, as with how it was originally mentioned it sounded like they were going to do the days back to back which would have been awful for the guys competing.

Brian Kendrick really sticks out, will be great to see him again. He was always fun to watch.
Taijiri must old as hell by now. I didn't even know he was still wrestling!

Yeah, I thought he'd retired. Maybe he has and this is a one time thing for him.
I guess Amazing Red was supposed to be in this, but he had to pull out due to a broken ankle. That is unfortunate, I haven't seen him wrestling in ages!

So Daniel Bryan is going to be hosting the tournament I guess. So this got even more awesome. This summer is going to be a fun one in the WWE, I just can feel it!

Meet the competitors in the CWC.

I love how they seem to have changed the name of this thing. Gone from Global Cruiserweight Series to WWE Cruiserweight Classic Tournament (which for some reason has the initials CWC instead of WCC). I liked the Global part of it, as they really do seem to have people from all over the world.
Fabian Aichner isn't a cruiserweight lol, he's a beast compared to the rest. Looks odd compared to the rest as he's visibly bigger than them all.
Tajiri looks fucking rough now as well.
I still think this is going to be great though overall. Really should be, and hopefully a few get contracts out of it. A good amount don't look any smaller than people like CM Punk, Rollins, etc. If they can make it in WWE, there's no reason why some of these people can't.
Another show from the CWC, looking at the brackets and a little bio for some of the competitors. It looks like all of the indie names get to face off against the unknowns so they will meet in the next round.

I've been enjoying the tournament so far. Kota Ibushi & Cedric Alexander had a quality match this week. At the end, the crowd chanted "please sign Cedric". Triple H came out, shook Cedric's hand and gave the crowd the thumbs up.

Yeah, that was cool. Tajiri also had a good match with Gran Metalik and Gargano and Ciampa stole the show with their 1st round match.

This sounds like something I can get behind. Who do you think should be included in the tournament?
