Jim Ross put on his blog recently how to fix the problems with WWE. He makes some good points, like who needs all the bad acting segments that add nothing, why have stupid little comedy sections that just aren't funny, etc. Would be great if someone actually took note of this and realise that it's what many fans think.

Any thoughts or disagreements with what he says?

"My thoughts on WW's recent communications and the fallout regarding their stock is simple. I outlined most of my take on this matter in the last blog that I authored.

However, I feel the solution is as simple as producing a more compelling TV product, putting key talents in a positive position to make a difference and overall 'booking' a better product that will appeal to the existing die hard fans and entice disenfranchised fans to return to the fold with a style of product that appeals to more to a mass audience of sports entertainment fans.

No fan, old or new, wants to sit through bad acting or long scenes that feature such. Dramatic, organic, dynamic promos where performers express themselves regarding a hot, personal issue or the importance of becoming a champion do not fall in the category of bad acting within the genre IMO.

Fans also do not need to be subjected to poorly executed comedy that is simply not funny. If comedy is written to satisfy a small aspect of the audience and that could be as small as the decision makers it should not be on TV. Simple, right?

Talents who have been percolating and touching the next level should e turned loose and given the chance to make a legit difference. In WWE, Dolph Ziggler comes to mind, in TNA guys like James Storm or Bobby Roode pop into my head as does a Michael Elgin in ROH.

Likely multiple other names belong on this off the top of my head listing but the bottom line is that if talents have gotten close but their creative push has been cut short for whatever the reason then perhaps it's time to re-evaluate that mindset and put them back in the game if they are sound of mind and body.

At the end of the day, any company's whose 'sales' are down has to focus on attracting new customers using smart marketing and consistently delivering a great product. Yep....it's easier said than done but it's doable.

Adding new customers/consumers will solve many ills but the general image that the media has on the genre isn't changing in a major way any time soon even though I can tell you from personal experience that the perception of the genre today as compared to when I started in the business is night and day.

Changing the overall image of men in tights wrestling inside a 20 foot squared circle is and always will be a "work in progress" and that's o.k.

The pro wrestling business is resilient and has deep roots unless those in charge of the genre across the board feel compelled to change what has essentially worked well for years.

Refine it, yes. Change it and continue to distance one's self from the fundamental aspects of the business is as illogical as any business ignoring the basic rules of economics. If one spends more than one earns said entity is certainly doomed for failure. That goes for ALL business as the basic laws of economics are just as viable today as they were when the concept was created. Same goes for the fundamentals of pro wrestling which are just as viable today as they were back in the day."

He's not wrong, but it's not especially enlightening either. He's saying take the crap off TV and put more good stuff on. Swap Marella for Ziggler. Yep, that'd be a good start.

Strange that the one thing JR didn't mention is the commentary. That's the first thing I'd change. Those three are as bad a team as I've ever heard. I'd take Taz and Tenay over Cole, King and JBL. Lawler has lost it, whatever he had, and adds less than nothing right now. JBL is fine, I guess, but much too repetitive and is totally ineffective as the heel voice. Cole is a good broadcaster, but the forced laughter, dancing and "I love it when he does this!" is killing me. The man is in his 40s, he's not the right guy to be putting over young acts like this. When Cole dances along with Adam Rose it's like when the South Park parents all tried to get in on the Chinpokomon craze. Instant death.

Not that I would bring JR back. I'd be tempted, but I think that ship has sailed. I'd use Regal and possibly Renee Young, if she's not totally irreplaceable on backstage interviews. Mathews is fine, been doing it long enough to be able to take over without any issues. Stop Vince micromanaging the calls too, that doesn't help anyone.

The other thing I'd have to scrap is the buzzwords. Watching WWE TV is like being part of a cult these days. We're not fans anymore, we're the WWE universe. Belts aren't belts, even though they've been belts in wrestling, boxing and MMA for decades, they're "championships." Never mind that an anything -ship is a state of being rather than a physical object. Your wedding ring isn't a wedding ring, it's a relationship. Obviously. Blood isn't blood, it's "wearing the wounds of war" or whatever they want to use this week. Even road agents aren't road agents, they're producers. The worst part is we have a guy like CM Punk stand up to all this in mid-2011, then within a few months he's cutting angry promos saying "that replica you carry, that's a belt, this is a championship!" So much for being anti-authority. He'd been brainwashed, and was being used to do the same to us.

Sick of it. Stop trying to separate WWE from pro wrestling. Sports entertainment is fine, but there's really no need to come up with a new word for everything, cut certain words out of the English language entirely, and put a new face on everything to make it look like something else.

And then there's the Cena thing, but I won't get into that again...

I could see wwe's business getting very ugly soon as if losing $350 million in 24 hours isn't bad enough...i don't know a whole lot about the stock world.. i know this is kinda comparable to the martha stewart stuff some years back... she went to jail.  i say that because like two law firms are looking into lies the company have made...which is very bad... i wont get to excited here but this could really rock some foundations...  it could all blow over too but this could be it as far as vince running things goes... it really will depend on what the law firms find and present and how much the heat is on.

it makes sense things are bad... refs and wrestlers unhappy with pay.. foley turning down a legends deal saying the video game payoffs were not really worth the effort... i don't know... i hope they can get things together i think the wwe is really about a year or so away from be something special.. i hope also this fright the wwe has had will encourage them to put forth a better product it's not impossible to get people over but those kids need to work too and not fear heat and being stars... ziggler sure as hell isn't and his gimmick needs a redo but i think the guy is fantastic..i could get into the reason i truely like him as a performer but not right now.

don't think we will see the wwe collapse and go under that's silly but i can see some major changes coming... i could honestly see vince finally saying enough and leaving it behind.

mick foley also posted a decent article on the matter too.. i'd share it but i really can't remember where i read it.

chux makes a lot of good points too... the banishment  of the word wrestling is enough.. they act like it's saying fuck or cunt on tv... i saw some clip somewhere where they had an arm wrestling match and referred to it as an arm entertainment match... that's just sad.

now for something more light hearted.

It annoys me when people think they know how to perfect the WWE product. I use to think it was the same until I actually thought of it, is the best product always whats best for business? Because we use our opinions and what we think is good to build the show, WWE use numbers and facts and figures. How do you know Marella doesn't make more money than Ziggler even though no one finds him funny? We all hate John Cena but if we were running the business he'd be central to everything.  Basically whats best for you isn't always whats best for business

I do agree about the commentators though, Lawler was finished 10 years ago, JBL is more annoying than entertaining plus the crowd starts chanting his name when they get bored which is a distraction and Michael Cole is Michael Cole.

And anyways WWE will never have an 100% entertaining product, Raw had like 35% of shit back when it was 2 hours now that it's 3 there's even more however we live in an age now where you thankfully don't have to sit through 3 hours and can just watch what you like to see.

Ugh I hate that I had to stand up for WWE.

They also make up facts and figures to suit them. I've seen many reports over the years where they've claimed something as fact showing all these figures only for them to be proven wrong.

Don't need a perfect product anyway, that's basically impossible. A good product consistently would be great though. Stupid comedy segments just aren't needed and no one finds them funny, bar retarded people. The best parts of Raw are when there's some good matches - don't need PPV quality matches, but one good match every so often is very poor. We get more 1-4 minute matches than we do good matches, and no match can be classed as being good in such a short space of time. Even if every show had 2 or 3 ten minute matches it'd be a massive improvement.

Couldn't take Cena off as he's clearly a money cow, but he needs to be booked so much better. No more of this superman bullshit. No more being beat down by 4 guys and then popping up like nothing has happened. No more poop jokes or anything like that. Make him a serious character who's just as vulnerable as some of the other top guys. To me that's go a long way to making Cena more likable.

Regal would be a great commentator. I can remember him stepping in for Raw a long time ago and he was great. I reckon he could work with JBL. On to JBL, I really liked him when he started on commentary. His return was great, he made some cool references, etc. Now though it just seems like he's being fed them and they're shit. I'm sure he was being fed the lines he was saying when he started, but at least it didn't seem like it. Somewhere between his commentary return and now it's gone quite wrong for him.

There was a great one a few months back leading up to the network launch where they found that, shockingly, they had far more fans than they actually do.

In fact, the estimate is based on in-house research that found that 52 million broadband-enabled U.S. homes have someone in them who has "an affinity" for World Wrestling Entertainment. As a result, the WWE reasoned the Network could get 2 million subscribers by getting just 4% of these households to sign up.

This logic is extremely flawed. While it's nice that 52 million households have "affinity" for the WWE, the fact is that only about 5 million people watch the company's flagship cable show, "Monday Night Raw," each week. It stands to reason that people who aren't watching the company's free offerings would be unlikely to pay $9.99 monthly for premium content.

How can anyone be handed a report that says 52 million people in the US are WWE fans and not laugh?

Sorry, when i posted before i assumed we were talking about the wwe stock troubles...

the shows need a lot of work.. i'm not a fan of taking terms out of wrestling.. everyone knows it's wrestling the stock holders know... it's a false world that mcmahon lives in... i do think he is totally out of touch now.. he is as old as my mom and she is out of touch too... its just how it goes i get a lot "that's what they are wearing now" and other things like that from my mom... and i'm sure it's the same with Vince, he assumes something that is mocked and laughed at by most of society and thinks it's great and then it just gets laughed at on wwe tv.

they have so much work to do i don't even know where to begin... they do have a lot of guys who are talented though... but i don't see them getting much love from wwe when i watch... ziggler, sandow, cody, just to name a few... the wrong guy in the shield is going to get the push... bray i'm worried about because he is great but somehow i see the creative team messing it all up... also bray should probably acknowledge in his promos that the majority of the people in the building aren't cheering cena but he goes on and on like they are.
